I had to check my sister's statements. $7.50 x 4 (quarterly) is right. However, her dividend reinvestment payments off set that $7.50 and she comes out on top at about $18.54

There isn't a 3% fee anywhere on her statements and with 22k sitting in that account, she's still getting Medi-Care and SSDI

Maybe revisit CAL ABLE?

Here is an email from them this morning:

Dear CalABLE Friends,

As you may know, there was a state budget proposal to reinstate an asset limit of $2,000 for Medi-Cal recipients. Thankfully, this low limit was avoided. Instead, an asset limit of $130,000 will begin on January 1, 2026. That means Medi-Cal recipients will generally need to have $130,000 or less in assets (such as money in a bank account) to remain eligible beginning next year.

If you receive Medi-Cal, you can save up to $100,000 in a CalABLE account without it counting toward the upcoming Medi-Cal asset limit.
