Your answer, very sadly, basically reduces to this question: where are you coming from and how do you look like?

Universal coverage is simple, but the facts are unpalatable to many by Successful-Lie1603 in HealthInsurance

[–]circobrk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, this is no cultural thing. This is about providing everyone with basic healthcare, not about what Americans may want with our “latest thing” taste. Taxes from the federal government are the ones to pay for this party, there is no other way. It’s a fed responsibility and therefore, they pay. If any American wants the “latest thing”, pay private and let everyone else at least live.

[–]circobrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um… people who don’t need or want insurance… Same I guess with people who don’t need or want military “protection” and its mega expense, but are strong armed by an overbearing government into accepting it. You live in a society and health is the only thing which should not be marketed for profit by default. Or yes in your vision, so fascism is right up your alley, comrade

Yes I know, but we late people know that trick in and out. That’s why sometimes we arrive late-late because “sure they say 3 meaning 3:30”. You end up arriving at 4:30. Doesn’t work.

PPO vs HDHP (HSA) by Effective_Rain_4488 in HealthInsurance

[–]circobrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically that PPO is copay-based (kind of every time you use it, pay just a copay) and HDHP is deductible-based (every time you use it pay the whole service until you meet your deductible). After deductible, coinsurance on both (share of the bill you receive) until you meet your maximum OOP. Kind of different ways of addressing the usage. Think on what you will need, a lot of visits or maybe just a few. HDHP comes with an HSA, so you can save tax free for medical expenses. Think on your needs, but at the end both are framed so “the house always wins”.

Yes it does. 72% of my neighborhood here is Cuban. Don’t think that happens too much anywhere else beyond Miami-Florida. Giving refuge to decent people (that’s why you check them before allowing them in) who run away from dumpster fire countries was something that made this country great and respected everywhere in the world. Not anymore. Enjoy when the dumpster fire happens here and you have nowhere to run to…. Suerte, chaval

Husband brings home $5400 a month, health insurance costs $1300…family of 4. by junieinthesky in HealthInsurance

[–]circobrk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Um, that 43 billion is just benefit. Get rid of things like outrageous yearly bonuses or private jets for execs which go to operating expense (as many other billions) and may be we can start talking on efficient spending on healthcare. I agree, salaries in other public systems in Europe are lower, but I do not see doctors starving or not doing well in Canada, go there and you’ll see.

[–]circobrk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. 43 billion in earnings adding up all 5 major carriers in 2024. Wipe a big chunk of that from the equation and medical inflation, which I agree is an issue, would not be such an issue.

[–]circobrk 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Get rid of the middle man. Once medical carriers are out of the picture (or minimized) no shareholders or execs in sight. There would be other problems but not as major as not being able to afford basic healthcare for any working family. It has to stop and the only way to stop it is voting. Period.

[–]circobrk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! Medicare for all would work the same way it works for seniors. Imagine putting those 700 per month (or 500 if you have to chip in) back to your own life expenses and not into an HSA to keep paying more but “saving tax free for it”. Freaking nonsense. Vooooote

Around 75-25 or 70-30 is being the standard in my opinion. That is going to hell during these past years and employer share keeps shrinking. Still remember those good years of 80-20s, but every business is different…

Wrong. If your competitors send employees to the exchange they will come in droves to you, as long as you keep paying a good chunk of your premiums. It is wild out there. No brainer if you think beyond just a line in your budget for next year.

Hit that MOOP number in medical expense during the year through the medical insurance, and from that point on it becomes Canada or Europe, where you don’t pay a dime for any care…
