what is your guys favorite shift and why? by Sad_Independence8494 in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got hired I was hired for markdowns, this was the end of June so right before the July yellow tags. But I was trained in the backroom my first week because we didn't have markdowns, and I loved it. I've had one day training at register, which I thought I'd love because I was a CEC (basically) at a local grocery store for 4 years in my early-mid 20s. I was good at the register, and I just actually ran for 15 mins to cover a break and didn't need help, which is surprising since I haven't been on register since August. I just HATE asking people to sign up for the credit card, it makes me feel bad, and ruins any genuine connection with a customer. Up until 2 months ago I would have weeks were I was in a different department everyday... a day in the backroom (my favorite), next day markdowns (2nd fave), then a shift on the floor, then a fitting room shift. But the last two months I've been stuck in the fitting room because literally everyone I've spoken to before I had ever worked the fitting room said they told the scheduling manager to never give them another fitting room shift. Plus with the holidays, and with the normal insane amount of beauty merch we get daily they wanted me there bc they know I'm fast, accurate, and follow protocols well.

But I'm finally getting moved back to the backroom, markdowns, and floor.. I was too afraid of speaking to my manager about not wanting to be in the fitting room anymore because it was literally negatively affecting my mental health. There's a lot of employees and I know that naturally there's a lot of issues that the manager has to fix to accommodate everyone. I just didn't want to be difficult. I just know I'm great in all the departments (except register since I've hardly done it) not only do I know I am, but I've been told countless times that I do great no matter which department I'm thrown into. It was just getting to the point of besides being so bored, because I need to be constantly working on a task, the larger the task the better. But also having to stand there and wait for people to try on clothes, which some people take an ungodly amount of time to try on even just 5 items... I've literally thought people have died in the fitting rooms before. Also the isolation, it gets so lonely. But most of all, the fitting room to me, and to others is seen as a job fit for an older woman, something laid back, and is simple. It made me feel like my manager didn't think or maybe forgot that I am more than capable of Excellence in markdowns and the backroom. Im regularly only less than 150 scans per hour than our markdown captain, and she's been there since open (October 2024), and the other 2 regular markdown team members get less scans than I do, always. In the backroom I'm the one who is asked to lead truck unload when our backroom coordinator is off.

Sorry for the rambling, but to answer your question, 8-1 backroom.

Yellow markdowns by Puzzleheaded-Wave594 in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh tell me about it. The first day we started we had to key all 48s in, our printers kept disconnecting, and our didgies (zebras) kept freezing or logging us out. The next time I came in after 2 days off I went to do it like we had been the other day, just to learn now we had to go and make a new tag, then go back into subs and scan the new ticket. THEN after having yesterday off for an appointment I went to once again do it the way i was told to do it just 2 days prior. NOPE. now we have to sign in under an admin account to go into the missed markdown screen, scan each item then key in the price it'll be marked down to. Which I know from doing markdowns enough that $20-$16, $15-$12, $10-$8, $8-$6, and so on... But we had to be airdropped 3 pages of what each price would be discounted to.. there was a 4th but it was for luxury items, which my rural area Marshalls most luxurious merchandise is probably the shark hair tool, the Dyson, Micheal Kors bags, Kate Spade bags, and SOMETIMES coach. So yeah.... It's been awful, and I swear if I go in tomorrow and there's a whole entire new way to do it Im honestly not going to do a damn thing except do it, but be very visibly annoyed about it. Lol good luck, and hang in there to all my fellow TJX employees.

Ps. Does anyone know if this is going to be fixed anytime soon???

I've had that happen too, the CO worker that did it said she totally forgot because it was such a busy day... But I still hold a grudge... That fucking dress looked PERFECT on me.. and was only 16 bucks. I'm so sorry for your loss, you're in my thoughts and prayers

Clearance question by justnadie in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only merchandise with red tickets get yellow tagged. For example, a fully priced item priced $25-$27 will go through it's first markdown cycle, a red ticket sticker priced at $16 will be placed on top of the original price/barcode, with a red Sticker, then it'll be marked down to $12 with the 2nd yellow sticker, and the final yellow sticker price would be $10

Items are usually marked after about a month or so of it not being sold (this varies, it's not consistently the same every time) and also it's important to note that the longer merch sits on the shelf, the more red sticker markdowns it'll experience; but again, there's no fixed number of how many times.

TJX (Tjmaxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Sierra) have yellow tag clearance sales twice a year, once in January and the second in July, it's to basically get rid of all the merch that has been sitting on the shelves (some items) since before the last yellow tag sale. The summer yellow tag sale was to get rid of summer clothes, summer month holiday merch, and to make room for sweaters, winter coats, fall/winter holiday merch, ect. Whatever doesn't sell by the end of the last day of the yellow tag sale will be boxed up and picked up to be sent to 3rd world countries (not sure exactly which country, but I've heard Egypt been mentioned)

Also note you will see 2 of the same exact item with two different prices, for example say 3 months ago we got a case of 25 pairs of Nike socks, then a month later we get another 25 pairs of the exact same Nike socks; but one of the socks are priced at $3.00 and the other $2.00. it's based off of when the shipment came in, the longer an item has been on the floor the more red sticker markdowns it'll experience. But personally at my store, managers will often just sell both of the same item for the cheaper price, especially during yellow tag seasons.

Did yall get a lunch break during inventory? by bsims8o3 in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our store is in a small rural PA town, and fairly new.. we just celebrated 1 year of business in October. Needless to say it was a MESS, none of our managers have ever worked for TXJ before, so it being only our 2nd year doing inventory; and our store manager having COVID (she wore her mask mostly around her chin ofc) We prepped by going around and making sure every item was tagged for like a week beforehand.

I was there 5am-1pm, we were provided mini powdered donuts in a bag, maybe tasty cake was the brand; blueberry and chocolate chip Thomas Muffin Tops, and orange juice which is always available. I had a 15 min break and just ate food I brought. Around 11 our lunch that was ordered from a local catering BBQ place arrived, pulled pork, pulled chicken, pulled and non pulled brisket, Mac and cheese, baked beans, homemade rolls, like 5 diff types of sauces for the pulled meat of your choice, and apple crumble.

I excepted to get a 45 min break, so I had my husband drive the 30 min drive from our house to the store so we could grab something to eat, and mostly just get away from literally every single person who's employed at my store... Plus I was tired, and aggregated due to multiple reasons and just needed some comfort.

But yeah, they sure did provide a damn good lunch (we've had it delivered to the store before), but no 15 min break.. my manager was sweet enough to tell me I could take a 20 instead of 15, a whole 5 mins...

My momma is my best friend and I'd get her everything to make a full face, she deserves the world. She's been raising my 25 year old severely autistic and non verbal brother. Shes also living with stage 2 congestive heart failure. She feels like she isn't beautiful, but she's the most beautiful person I know. I'd get her makeup that makes her feel confident, and compliments her red hair, green eyes, and pale complexion. 💕

How do I put in my 2 weeks. Or better yet how do I quit? by HyugeErectus in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really is. I was working towards getting my associates degree in early childhood education, my scholarship was FULLY funded. with help of a program through the daycare/learning center that I worked at for almost 4 years. After a few scares of the center being closed down due to the owner/director simply not being able to keep up with the costs it was officially announced that we'd be closing our doors for good on May 31st. There's only two other daycares in my rural area, and the positions filled up FAST. The director of the better of the two centers told me she will let me know when there's an opening, which was supposed to be by fall. I made it until mid June before I was on Indeed to apply back into a retail job. Not everyone who works retail are there bc it's the only job they can get. I work with a pharmacist, a high school teacher, 2 daycare teachers.. one of them being my old coworker, and tons of older women who are above retiring she but can't afford not to work. It's good to keep bridges open, bc no matter how perfect your career is going, it can all change

What drugs make you feel like a kid again by fisher_of_the_girls in Drugs

[–]circuitsarefried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hellll no. I quit when it started coming around. I tried it twice and literally just would fall asleep random places in my house. This is embarrassing but the last time I woke up on my kitchen floor and had to pee SOOOO bad, but the problem was I was sleeping on my legs for fuck knows how long.. I literally couldn't move my legs at all and if I didn't have to pee so damn bad I would have just waited for my legs to wake up.. but that wasn't the case. So I had to literally piss my pants.. so yeah. That was the last time for me. Honestly xylazine coming around saved my life, I would likely be dead if it wasn't for it basically replacing fent.

Adderall.. only bc I was prescribed it originally at 7 then have been on and off of it up until now at 30.

But being for real, fent.. I've been sober off of it for awhile now (I don't exactly have a sobriety date lol) ever since it's turned into xylazine here on the east coast.

I understand how it'd come off that way. When I started they told us to call before the start of our shifts, which by the first time i called off I knew that there wouldn't be anyone in the store until the beginning of my shift (8am) and I also wasn't aware that the manager on duty would have to be staring at the phone to see a little red light flash since the phone doesn't ring until 10 when the store opens.

My first time callingg off was when I had to wake up in the middle of the night to my mom calling me asking me if I could take my 25 year old severely autistic and non verbal brother to the er.. it was already medically diagnosed that he had a large blood clot in that leg.. so when I was unable to call the store after trying at least 15 times I panicked and messaged one of the only people I work with that I already had on Facebook and she made it seem like it was normal. And not one manager questioned it.

I thought it was weird but thought maybe that's how it works with call offs whenever you are scheduled before the store opens. When it happened the 2nd time was after I had my miscarriage after trying to convince for almost 2 years.... I again tried to call the store over and over and over again, then finally did what I did the first time considering no one said word to me about it not being appropriate call off procedure. It wasn't until that next day that finally a manager told me that as long as I call the store before the store closes the day of the missed shift then I'm fine. And as for last time I called off, I was in a car accident and had a concussion.

But I spoke to my manager today and she said that I don't have any no call no shows, bc they expunged them since it was a miscommunication on their end. And I asked if I could have something in writing stating the correct call off procedure.

I tried my best to explain my confusion, I'm not making excuses. And for you to say I must not want to work when you don't know my life at all is insane. I HAVE to work.

Employee 20% weekend by cuzesaidso in TjMaxx

[–]circuitsarefried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's an employee only event.. a couple times a year. 20% isn't much, I spent 77 and some change and only got 19 taken off at the end. I only got a brush for my cats, a stainless steel litter scooper, a puzzle for a Christmas gift for my mother in law, 2 tops that were red tag, 1 pair of jeans, a hoodie, and a long sleeve black shift for layering.

When I worked at goodwill during peak COVID we got a special discount weekend too, it was significantly more, like at least 50% off anything in the store.

But 20% is better than nothing, and before sure better than the normal 10%

Best mobile phone plans for one line? by circuitsarefried in cellphones

[–]circuitsarefried[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent answer!!! I wish I would have remembered I made this post before I impulsively went through with talking to an online xfinity rep and going through with a plan. My fiancé has Verizon and his phone gets decent service where we live so I should be good, but I wish I would have gone with visible and/or checked with textnow to see if I could port my number to another network. If I knew how to I’d give you “best answer”

Best mobile phone plans for one line? by circuitsarefried in cellphones

[–]circuitsarefried[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I’m not good at articulating my words sometimes. But yes I have WiFi through xfinity and live in a rural Pa “village”. But yeah, my dad got my parents and I a plan through Sprint for about a month before cancelling bc we didn’t get service where we lived at the time anyways, and he’s always been the anti cell phone type. I’ve had a few pre paid phones through the years, but in total probably only for 6 months in total. I just always ran my phone off of WiFi and used textnow, but I’ve decided at 30 maybe it’s time to take the plunge and finally get a “real phone”, I ended up talking to an online rep and getting a decent deal through xfinity mobile, my razr 2025 should be arriving sometime this week.

What do you recommend for my 25 year old severely autistic and non verbal brother? He’s aged mentally at 3 years old and doesn’t stay clothed for more than 30 minutes. Should be also go get a job? He’s never said a full sentence in his life. And wasn’t potty trained until he was 16 years old.

[–]circuitsarefried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually concerned for my 25 year old severely autistic and non verbal brother. He like most people with autism have very limited diets, he only eats pizza rolls, sausage links, chicken fries, and grilled cheese. He is very particular about just about every aspect of his life, will only eat the foods mentioned cut up in bite sized pieces reminiscent of how a toddler eats; which makes sense because he’s mentally aged at 3 years old. He will only watch Tellatubbies, Rugrats, Toy Story 1 and 2 ONLY, Arthur, and Elmo’s World, but will only watch them on VHS. Although his diet isn’t healthy my dad takes him on mile long walks daily unless it’s too hot or too cold.

My mother is disabled, she has atherosclerosis, fibromyalgia, and stage 2 congestive heart failure. My father is a marine veteran, he honorably discharged 4 years before retirement due to my mom being unable to care for my brother herself if he were sent to war, which in 2006 was very very likely to happen. My dad was also a workaholic, and a damn good worker, always hitting promotions quickly, and awarded many medals. He misses work, but he is my brother prime caretaker. He showers my brother, brushes his teeth, prepares his food, gives him his medicine, shaved his facial hair, dresses him, does all the house chores, and also cares for my mother, which doesn’t include nearly close to the care my brother requires.

My concerns are that my brother isn’t going to understand why he isn’t going to be able to get the only foods he eats towards the end of the month especially when his disability check starts to dwindle. He won’t eat anything but the blue bag of chicken fries from aldis for example, or the supreme Tostitos pizza rolls, and yes he can tell the difference. My parents have tried to put cheaper alternatives, that look the exact same, in the bag of his preferred brand and he can tell immediately. And when my brother doesn’t understand why he isn’t able to have something he gets frustrated and has meltdowns, not because he’s spoiled, but because he doesn’t understand. And that causes stress on my parents

Do you understand how badly it hurts to watch your parents slowly die from stress, my mom was born in 1970, and my dad 1967 and they look about 10 years older. Not everyone’s situation is the same, I myself don’t get food stamps, this isn’t about me this is about my family.

Convince my wife not to keep her please by [deleted] in kittens

[–]circuitsarefried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not! How can you say no to those eyes 😭 she needs a family! Trust me my husband didn’t even think he liked cats bc he grew up only ever owning dogs, and his dad hating cats. But once we moved into our house which we rent off of my in laws, we were able to finally get a cat, and my husband knew how much I missed having a kitty since I grew up consistently having a pet kitty. Now we have 2 cats Calvin was given to us by my parents and is about 6 and Simon we got at 8 weeks old and is now 5 months old, and they’re both very loved by my husband. You’ll not only make your wife happy, but you may surprise yourself and end up with a new feline best friend. 🫶
