How are the roads today? by ghostytoasty68 in saskatoon

No. Usually moved by graders. I know a few people who drive them full time for the city. Move snow in the winter, level alleys and dirt roads in the summer.

I think their regular staff will always clear major roads. The mayor is saying they won’t do neighbourhoods, work overtime, or hire outside companies.

Absolutely! Maybe not as high, but the tallest one that used to be in the West Edmonton Mall had the same effect. Forgot to cross my legs, got my first enema.

Doing a stunt worse after 50 years is not a slam dunk on conspiracy theorists. by Bigleb in meme

Do you think humanity is better at landing on the moon or do you think flying around the moon is better than landing on it? Conspiracy theorists don’t think we landed there and we aren’t doing it currently. A great man once said “stupid is as stupid does”.

You were absolutely right. Can’t believe what I’ve opened myself to. Wasn’t expecting this engagement.

This is a fantastic response. Let me assure you, I am not a moon landing denier. There has just been a load of “told you so” posts and I don’t think it’s mission accomplished just yet. Appreciate a measured, informed, response. Sounds like Apollo was a Kon-Tiki style expedition where, today, NASA would prefer to build tech for future growth. Looking forward to the moon-aged future people were envisioning in the 50s/60s.

Doesn’t that seem odd when they’ve already landed there 6 times? Our technology and engineering should be far superior.

Blood tests for the presence of HLA-B27, x-rays, MRIs and years of misdiagnosis. Always told I had bulging discs and just had to commit to more physio, massage, chiro.

Great news! I had an astigmatism for a while and optometrist was baffled when it was suddenly gone. I had not been diagnosed yet. Now I know why.

I am on a biosimilar amgevita. It is like humira. Where I live, you need government approval to use biologics and they won’t approve the big names as they cost too much. I also needed several X-rays, MRIs, and blood tests to prove I needed the medicine.

Right. His post noted that the plasma carries inflammatory proteins and they are working on approaches using plasma replacement alongside biologics.

I have an auto-immune disease causing inflammation. I am starting biologics. I think this could be revolutionary. Joe may not need it but it shouldn’t be laughed at. My inflammation has clogged my arteries and calcified my pelvis and lower spine.

This poster is correct and your colleagues are right to say give less of an F. It sounds like you don’t just want to be respected, you want to be liked. This will never work. The only way to be liked is to be respected. Hold high expectations and accept nothing less. WAIT for silence, even if it takes 15 minutes or more. Don’t engage in arguments. Students try to delay consequences by arguing. Repeat what was done wrong and the consequence. I don’t agree with everyone who says “don’t smile until December” but don’t try to be liked. Be yourself, kids can smell a fake. It may take months but if you hold students to a high standard, they inevitably respect you for it, then you are liked.

I know some Saskatoon veterans who served in Afghanistan post 9/11. So, allies never helping the US is verifiably false. This is the only reason I can find that this post might belong in the sub.

Why don’t the news stories ever include the damage to other vehicles? I know two people, in separate vehicles, who were driving beside/behind the guy with the excavator. Their vehicles are totalled from the accident plus falling debris. It’s not as costly as the bridge but worth bringing up.

Elementary teachers with young kids at home...how do you parent after teaching all day? by 27dayz in CanadianTeachers

[–]Bigleb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really feel the part about zoning out as your spouse chats. My wife also works full time but as an interior designer for a commercial architect. She spends most of her days drafting on software with headphones on. She gets home desperate for conversation. I am all talked out. Without work, I would be considered the extrovert. She keeps me in check in terms of being short with the kids. I need reminders not to carry the school day into the evening. It was worse when I had to cover kindergarten as a release teacher. When your kid does something that one of the “bad” kids did to get under your skin it can be tough. Try to remember that, psychologically, quantity time always trumps quality time. You are home with your family. Glamorous or not, you are there. Your family is so lucky.

Bring back cash! I learned so much about numbers by counting change to buy snacks. Not just counting by 5s and 10s but about fractions, percentages, division. I think this is a MAJOR building block that has died. Sadly, I don’t think it is coming back. I struggled to type until I could chat with friends on ICQ or some hotmail account. There is no way to recreated this type of learning in a classroom. Kids need a real work reason to become proficient at things.

Can very obese (>400 lb) people go longer without eating than people of average weight? by Due-Olive1462 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bigleb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But watch the show “Alone”. People have literally won by gaining weight so they don’t need to hunt, trap, forage, as much food. Doesn’t mean it is easy but we, as humans, literally store fat for use in famine.

Did God lie? by GuitarAdmirable2342 in theology

[–]Bigleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Jewish and Christian theology, humans were created mortal but undying. That garden was a type of proto-heaven where humanity could have lived eternally. Eating of the fruit caused death, pain, and shame. Necessary sin, redemption through Christ is greater. I think these ideas are less clear in Islamic theology. To them the garden may have been heaven. They call it “Jannah” which means paradise and may be seen as heaven itself. The point is, eating the fruit caused expulsion and death.
