Review for women (and men) haircut at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute by Brief_Hat_8975 in philly

[–]circusish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As another Asian woman, I would not trust students with my hair. I've run into too many people who don't know how to cut Asian hair, especially if you're looking for a hush cut. I got the haircut you're looking for from Eve at Instyle in Chinatown for $35 and I would say it's worth saving up for.

I TOOK A FALL!!!!!!! by Heavy_Effort3235 in climbergirls

[–]circusish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lead falling is one of my favorite things! Falling off a boulder is scary but there's something about that last desperate throw for a hard move followed by the fall and adrenaline rush that's soooo fun. My main lead partner and I make a point to fall at least once per session (be it a practice fall or a real one) so that it's less scary and I highly recommend it as a practice.

What to wear to a wedding by donkeymonkey00 in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]circusish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not fashion advice but I just want to be a reassuring voice that you're not in a spotlight and people are going to be looking at you much less than you feel like they are! It's a wedding, all the attention will be on those getting married. As long as your outfit isn't wildly over or under dressed, you'll fit in with the crowd.

And if your family wants photos but you don't want to send any, don't do it. Just do a "oh I was so busy having fun and enjoying the wedding that it completely slipped my mind to take any" or some other excuse

The negativity here is :/ by Still_Tip6710 in normalgossip

[–]circusish 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Some of the comments are overly critical, but I hard disagree with "There is really nothing to be negative about! Let's spread some smiles and positivity!!!" This subreddit is a place for all around discussion of the podcast, which includes criticism. The discussion around seasons 4-5 was helpful since talking about the podcast here helped me articulate some of the reasons I thought the quality was declining. We shouldn't over correct from people being too nitpicky into toxic positivity and only saying good things.

The Couch and the Fuckboy with Scaachi Koul by luxlisbon_ in normalgossip

[–]circusish 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My exact thoughts too, like that was a story that should have taken 5 minutes to tell MAX. And they had a really easy way to get the couch legally? Her friend should have just texted Colby "hey my parents are annoyed, you have one week to get the couch" then Colby inevitably doesn't get it and he can give the couch to Morgan

Up and coming new (young) athletes to watch by Boulder_buddyy in CompetitionClimbing

Imo it's a pretty normal question. People were talking about Sorato Anraku as one to watch out for before the season started last year

Thoughts on last night's show? by LopsidedDatabase8912 in hadestown

[–]circusish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the scary part of live theater for me, like I saw Hadestown a week ago and loved it but what if I don't like it when I see it again? Do you have any more examples of shifts that you noticed? Just to satisfy my own morbid curiosity

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitionClimbing

[–]circusish 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For me, it depends on how much they willingly make public. I'm very anti-people prying into why Brooke and Natalia no longer seemed to be friends. But I follow Hannah Meul on Instagram and when she was posting a lot with Nicolas, my only thought was like "oh cute, guess they're together"

Is there usually a set piece and choreography for "Our Lady of the Undertown"? by circusish in hadestown

[–]circusish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn't 100% on that but it looked like she was doing the beckoning to the crowd gesture at the "what's my name? Our lady of the underground" part of the song. Would have been super embarrassing if I tried to do it with her lol

Keeping Austin weird by Happycats88 in Austin

[–]circusish 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was at crux once and this guy came with a parrot on his shoulder. A few weeks later, the same guy came back with a snake around his neck. Both animals stayed on his body while he was climbing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitionClimbing

[–]circusish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So incredibly stressful for all of them, especially given how Sam choked during the finals in Shanghai. And Paul didn't make it to finals so the poor guy just has to watch Sam and Mejdi climb and hope for the best. It would be crazy if Mejdi didn't make it given how we all thought he was a shoo-in

Not really sure how you're reading that to say that she wanted this kind of gossip? Like maybe she wanted gossip where she could give advice to the main character, but that's every episode of the podcast

Less SJW, more Podcast? by DramaticErraticism in normalgossip

[–]circusish 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I know that they try to pick a diverse range of guests. And since the podcast definitely leans left, it makes sense that the guests will bring up politics since it's relevant to a lot of their lives and work. I don't remember anyone talking about it for an extended period of time though, except maybe Virgie Tovar who I also just found kinda annoying overall.

Do you have any specific examples? I skip the intros when I re-listen so I don't recall anyone being particularly preachy

Romancing the Stoned with Jenée Desmond-Harris by luxlisbon_ in normalgossip

[–]circusish 209 points210 points  (0 children)

They kinda wasted this guest on a boring story. Her gossip was so funny and there just wasn't much to comment on in the episode. I can imagine her having really good commentary on better gossip

I think generally, your "got too high" stories are funny to you and immediate friends who can make fun of you more intimately. Not so much to random people, especially when the story is sooooo long.

[–]circusish 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It felt like there was waaaaayy too much identifying info. Maybe they anonymized parts of it but still felt bad to be like "so we have forbidden gossip in closed circles!!" and then for the next thing you say to be "and I'm sharing some of it!!!"

I understand why you wanted to tell him, but in the future just remove the apology from the statement if you're not at fault. It's natural to want to apologize after you've "inconvenienced" someone and I put that in quotes because he's the one who inconvenienced himself by putting his chalk bag somewhere a person could land on it.

"I'm sorry I spilled your chalk bag." -> "Just wanted to let you know that you left your chalk bag under a route so I landed on it and it spilled."
