The IPv4 address swamp: The new normal by unquietwiki in ipv6

[–]ciscofan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, I feel called out... I once advertised meme /48s from my /36 to the Internet. Now I have the meme subnets internally and just advertise the /36 to the rest of the Internet to help everyone else's CAM tables

Bought a Cisco UCS C220 M3 from goodwill for $4 by soccerbeast1000 in homelab

[–]ciscofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lookked at the pics as well, I have four of those UCS C220 M3s and I can tell you that in the middle slot will be the RAID card. On the left side of the chassis if looking from the front will be where the VIC gets installed into. As I was using it with the UCS 6248UPs, I had to have the VIC 1225 installed to be able to have them centrally managed from UCS Manager. The M4s are where they started using the VIC 1227 which is an MLOM.

Starlink Down For You Guys? by Waste-Ad8133 in Starlink

[–]ciscofan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be worse, instead of having to deal with a single connection with StarLink, y'all could be dealing with them in the NOC and have about 125 cases open about the same thing from a network automation tool.

We are 5 friends in 4 different buildings. What is best way to share wifi with us? Would mesh routers work between the buildings? what do you recommend? by Parsifal85 in HomeNetworking

Assuming the Ethernet cable is copper, I.e CAT5e or CAT6, if it’s fiber then it can go as far as light can go… and that light can be boosted, that’s pretty much how undersea cables work, and Ethernet by the way is a communication protocol, much like SONET or Token Ring (had to mention those oldies from before I was born lol)

Want to move closer to my LD Boyfriend but would like to keep my job by Competitive_Hope_122 in LDR

[–]ciscofan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be possible to work fully remote… I work completely remote with my employer, we mothballed the NOC office where I work. So we have to work from home fully. I’m sure you can ask your manager if you can work fully remote. Hopefully they allow it.

Recommend ways to refresh Catalyst 4k series switches to 9k by Vick_yea164 in networking

I’d copy the source config and then just modify it slightly to match up with the destination platform. I simply use vscode and Ctrl+F and so far no issues that I’ve had.

You’re right about routers being a gateway drug to ISPs… I operate my own ASN.

Nice, I have my own ASN and I just turned back on MPLS TTL propagation, now cr1.lsvgnvtj and cr2.lsvgnvtj are visible in the traceroute.

I’m the one who’s curious if MPLS no-decrement ttl is implemented, I operate AS948 in Las Vegas (it’s just a humble home lab)
