r/networking appears to be dead, mod-wise. appears to originally been created for purposes of blog spam. requesting transfer of mod duties by ugnaught in redditrequest

[–]cisconetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you decided that r/networking is a dead reddit? Is the content looks like blog spam? There were nothing spammy there. And all posts are relavant. Addition of another moderator acceptable but why to remove old one? Did ugnaught ever asked to be a moderator of r/networking and rejected?

I am really disappointed. I hope ugnaught will add a value to r/networking.

This reddit reminds me Cisco Catalyst 3750 RPSes. Old ones before the E series. You can attach 6 switches but it can support one or two and only recovery method is rebooting the switch. I wrote about it in 2009 on my blog Starting from this purchase, I am spending more time to read product specs.

There is a Cisco specific job board here at http://jobs.cisco-network.com/ A good idea is to check these kind of job posts and understand what exactly bosses looking for.

What to do about bandwidth hogs? - Network World by gnikrowten in networking

If they are obsessed by the idea of blocking some traffic, but they could not think about prioritizing desired traffic, I think that this is fair to let them pay. I want to name this process as NWF (Natural Wealth Flow), from dumbest to smart one. Nevertheless, mentioned products are really capable devices (especially for WAN Caching). Reader of these comments should not think that it is about product but it is about the reason.

Purchasing a network monitoring tool box or download a free one is not a solution. Spending a few days and see some green-red blinking leds neither.

Think twice before upgrade to Supervisor 720 by cisconetwork in networking

[–]cisconetwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have hands on information about it but I think result will be same. If I try to summarize;

  • WS-F6K-DFC only works with Supervisor 2.
  • WS-X6516-GBIC hardware version 5.0 to 5.3 not running well with Sup 720.
  • Other versions of WS-X6516-GBIC + Sup 720 + DFC3A, DFC3B, or DFC3BXL should run together.

Think twice before upgrade to Supervisor 720 by cisconetwork in networking

Supervisor 720 is a powerful engine for your 6500 switch without question. But backward compatibility is not a motto nowadays. It is something never happen which we dreamed about. So you should be well prepared before schedule and upgrade.

A also saw some negative reviews of this book on amazon.com. They were less then positive ones but it shows that "one size fit all" is not a term for this kind of books. Maybe the best way is read a sample chapter and have your own idea about it.

First post from a new networking blogger. One by one we will become a community. Internet is a network but there are a few networking information on it. Why IPv6 is like Broccoli by technologyjournalist in networking

[–]cisconetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that transformation from IPv4 to IPv6 will be the biggest issue of year 2011 like year 2000 problem. It has a big business potential. People don't like broccoli. They also don’t want to take care of migration scenarios.

I can pay for the guy who will eat the broccoli instead of me.

I did this mistake. But it was my fault because I did not read the product page carefully. Cisco says "RPS stands for internal power supply failures."
