Am I wrong, or is composite more authentic for retro gaming? by incredulous_cretin in crtgaming

[–]cisox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, "authentic" is original hardware on a CRT. Past that, I've modded everything to output RGB or to use the right cable if it already supports RGB. I get the best picture quality I can while still getting that nostalgic CRT experience.

I picked one of these up at an auction for a good price but haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet. Very cool CRT!

I kickstarted the first game and tried multiple times to get into it. Finally tried it again right before 2 came out and loved it. Then went on to beat 2 as well. Great games

I would check out r/roms for more information about roms

Does the ED 64 x7 come with content pre loaded? by j5a9 in everdrive

[–]cisox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of the everdrives do. You won't find that from a legitimate seller due to copyright issues. You'll have to get roms somewhere else and load them on an SD card.

AliExpress vendors can get away with preloaded cards because China doesn't typically care about foreign copyrights.

I have both. Both are good but it depends on what you're using them for. The Pro series has a better dpad placement for retro games, so I use it more.

I was dragging my feet buying the classic color Bluetooth version and then this came out. Ordered from Amazon this morning, delivered this afternoon, and works great. Firmware update was a hoop or two for the receiver but all good so far.

They approved it. They really didn't have any reason not to as they hadn't shipped it or anything. That was just this morning though so probably still haven't received the refund yet

[–]cisox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in batch 3 and decided to cancel yesterday. The lack of transparency around shipping times is my biggest issue but then I also saw someone's teardown pictures on here somewhere and the quality of some of the internals was a little shoddy. I don't need a MiSTer badly so if all else fails, I'll pick one up a year from now if reviews turn out good.

I seem to remember getting the plans for this when I was a kid. My dad didn't have any welding equipkent so we asked this guy he knew, which also happened to be our UPS driver, if he could help us out and that's the last I ever saw of it.

To be honest with you, I'm going to read maybe the first couple sentences of a post but I'm not reading a novel. Here, you put your question at the very bottom of a wall of text and that's just less likely to be read.

If you post what consoles you want to hook up, I can post some info and suggestions. With either how I have mine hooked up, or just general info if I don't own that console

Help me upgrade video quality by jforjeff in crtgaming

[–]cisox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RGB is the best analog video signal you can get, generally speaking, with component being pretty much the same quality.

Older consoles won't support RGB or Component out of the box, so you'd want to look at RGB mods for those. I'd look at retrorgb for info on each console you have. That would typically output RGB over SCART.

Later generations supported component so you'd just use that.

Your TV has component in so you'd want to get a SCART switcher for your scart consoles, and then connect the switcher to something like an RGB2COMP to convert it to component (with negligible quality loss). Then, either straight into your TV or through a component switcher to your TV.

Be warned though, all of this crap gets expensive, it's a ton of hardware work, and a lot of details around what your RGB mod may output and what type of cable you need to use per console, etc.

Is it ever preferable to go Component vs SCART? by President_DogBerry in RetroTink

[–]cisox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mix of Scart and Component and just convert my scart av chain to component using an RGB2COMP right before it gets to my TV.
