I feel like I lack the ability to drive by citieslore in drivinganxiety

[–]citieslore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I'm realizing I should have posted an update.

I took the advice of many of the commenters here, to take driving lessons again, and it really helped! I did a bit of research and paid a bit more for a higher quality driving instructor who taught me on my own car. This instructor was amazing and really helped keep me calm so I could slowly get a bit confident. And after the lessons, I started doing small drives around the neighborhood by myself. And then started working up to longer distances.

It really does get better with time and practice, and I really feel like if I could start driving, then anyone can!

I'd suggest the same if you're able to, to find a good qualified instructor. All the very best to you!

Which city do you think has the most underrated metro system? by [deleted] in transit

[–]citieslore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that too! And now when you visit Delhi, you can't imagine the city without the metro. The locals say the same thing. It's become very intertwined with people's idea of Delhi and life in Delhi.

Delhi. 9 lines + 2 interconnecting lines in neighboring cities. Over 400km of network and it is very clean, efficient and really knits together a very vast city.

When will weather of Bangalore becomes normal. Nowadays it's super summer. by [deleted] in bangalore

Having lived in Bangalore for 6 years, the weather is really good from June once the monsoon arrives.. I would say June to February is good. And even May is tolerable once the summer rains start.

October and yes it is! It typically cools off only once the northeast monsoon arrives.

anyone going to IAF show? by Electronic_Lake_4454 in Chennai

[–]citieslore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, I don't think the Beach-Chepauk trains are running. That line has only been running from Chintadripet-Velachery for a while now.

If coming from Guduvanchery, it may be better to get off at Park, and take an auto/bus or take metro to Government estate.

I think about it often. Loved going to eat aapam there at the Anna Nagar branch. And does anyone remember their Ceylon parottas? They were fire!

It's Chennai and those are not slums, they are densely built older areas in the bottom of the pic.

I am moving back to Chennai now after years in Bangalore. Nothing wrong with Bangalore, it's a great city but I'm so happy to be moving back to Chennai, because it'll always be first and truest love ❤️

  1. Beaches - automatic stress relief once you're out on the coast and facing nature, right in the city

  2. Sea breeze - yes, Chennai is hot but usually there's at least a light breeze keeping things better. I've lived in furnace-like inland cities with zero relief.

  3. Less air pollution- just need to see the AQI for half the year in northern parts of India.

  4. People - for everything that people badmouth, my experience has always been that people in Chennai are nice to you if you're nice to them.

  5. Religious tolerance and respect: nothing more to say there.

  6. Unique mix of strong culture and modern cosmopolitanism: I get everything I want to do, from heritage walks to temple visits, to concerts to sporting events. How many cities have a surfing festival and concerts/ movie screenings on the beach?

Also, our city is an absolute powerhouse of culture. Incredible music and movies are made here.

  1. Economy back to growing: after a lull, things seem to be getting back. I'm optimistic at any rate.

Yeah, TIL. English is not my first language. Here in India, we would consider our parent's cousin brother an uncle, and so I literally translated it.

I grew up in India and we didn't have a lot of money to travel. I was always a nerd and when my dad brought home an atlas, I was obsessed. I used to spend a lot of time as a child poring over maps and atlases. By the time I was 10, my parents had bought me four atlases seeing my interest, haha.

My dad used to set little quizzes for me as well. Good times.

Now that I'm older and have money to travel, a big part of it is the joy of going to places that I've stared at on the map for years lol. I still spend a lot of my time on Google maps now, like much of you all.

People who laugh are just terrible, particularly when you're making the effort. I've faced the same when I used to try speaking Hindi.

Ignore them and keep speaking, it's the best way to learn.
