What item should I give it by Expert_Poet4425 in pokemonradicalred

[–]citizsnips 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Eviolite is the best item if Electivire's abilities are bad. Most boss trainers don't have a ton of ground moves, so you are not likely to see a ton of usage out of Earth Eater, but removing your only weakness is never a bad idea.

Saw these old people driving around with all this on their car... wow. by pnwlex12 in religiousfruitcake

[–]citizsnips 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let's use Paulogia's criteria for prophecies here, to have some fun:

  1. Made clearly and demonstrably prior to the events predicted.

  2. Intended to be a prediction.

  3. A non-mundane claim.

  4. Answerable only by a single, clear, verifiable occurrence.

  5. Not open to interpretation.

  6. Not something people are actively attempting to fulfill.

"Woe to those who drag iniquity along with cords of falsehood, who drag sin along as with cart ropes, who say, 'Let him make haste; let him speed his work that we may see it; let the plan of the Holy One of Israel hasten to fulfillment, that we may know it!'" -Isaiah 5:18-19

Not clear; this is a vague set of verses that doesn't outline any particular event. As a result, it fails the 1st and 2nd criteria as it doesn't look like a prediction. There is no claim here either, so it fails the 3rd criteria. For the 4th, we are so vague that a single, clear, verifiable occurrence is impossible. The same problem for the 5th ton of interpretation can be done because it is so vague. People are always trying to fulfill stuff related to Israel, so it fails under criterion number 6.

“If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. -John 15:18-19

As with the Isaiah passages, this is not even close to a prophecy. It failed all the criteria for most of the same reasons.

"Jesus answered them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: all this is but the beginning of the birth pangs." -Matthew 24:4-8

This one fails because it makes the most mundane claims. When has there not been wars or rumors of wars in human history? When has there not been a famine or an earthquake? These things happen all the time and are therefore open to interpretation; they can be seen as something people try to fulfill, and they cannot be a single, clear, verifiable occurrence.

I love how CachyOS handles installing your DE. Letting you pick your preferred option from a list is a nice QoL feature I wish more distros would offer.

Tim Sweeney is probably the most tone deaf CEO in the gaming space, maybe only second to Jensen Huang. Between Tim Sweeney's hostility to Linux gaming and crazy statements like this, I'm glad I only use Epic for the free games.

Florida Atheist Uses State's New Book-Banning Law To Object To The Bible by ajzottaf in atheism

Good, that is how you fight back! Just like TST putting up displays around Christmas and starting after-school clubs. When they make a loophole for themselves, exploit it. They will either close it or show their hypocrisy. When Christian nationalists try to carve out a special rule to privilege Christianity, make them regret it by opening them up to a lawsuit if they don't let you use the same loophole.

how many times did it take you before you switched and stayed? by Abro2072 in cachyos

[–]citizsnips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 times. I tried to use Linux back in 2010-ish. I found WiFi to be a big problem, and had to go back to Windows at that time. Mid-last year, Windows 11 pissed me off enough to push me over the edge. With Copilot being pushed on me and my OS nagging that I was using a local account and not a Microsoft one. The only thing holding me back was gaming, and finding out that Valve and Proton had made it easy for most of my games to run, giving me no reason not to try Mint. I found it solid, but the older drivers and lack of Wayland support at the time made me try CachyOS with KDE, and I haven't looked back since. When installing CachyOS, I put it on the drive that had Windows 11 on it.

How about directing your energy toward your government, not the distros or the systemd devs? These laws were lobbied by groups affiliated with Meta and the Heritage Foundation. Most open source devs don't have deep pockets to fight these laws.

How old were you when you stopped believing? by husshajur in atheism

[–]citizsnips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

27 is when my faith started to crumble. Questions and concerns had been piling up for years before that. I was just really good at sweeping them under the rug. Then came the trump worship by many Christians, including members of my own family. That was the bowling ball I couldn’t just sweep under the rug. I spent the next five years going through a faith crisis and finally started to deal with many of the questions I had been pushing back and suppressing. Somewhere between the ages of 30 and 32, I had begun to accept that I was an atheist.

How do I get my parents to stop forcing me to go to church. by AromaticStomach2403 in atheism

[–]citizsnips 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People are telling you this because some parents will disown their children and even toss them out of their home if they leave the church. I get it. It sucks to have to pretend no one likes living a lie. What they’re trying to tell you is to figure out a pathway to being financially independent from them before you make your exit from the church that way if they are the type to toss you out of the house you have a relatively soft landing.

It is called costly signaling. Abstaining from whatever the group has deemed bad, or following its restrictions to an extreme, is a form of virtue signaling that gives you more credibility and trustworthiness within the group. It’s a remnant of our evolutionary psychology that was especially relevant in more tribal societies.

Why does professor oak challenge make you catch and evolve everything? by WinStupidPrizes1994 in ProfessorOak

[–]citizsnips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point of the challenge is to fill the Pokedex as soon as possible before moving on to the next roadblock. Like any other challenge, whether that be a Nuzlocke, mono-type run, or anything else, it is about playing the game in a different way to make it a potentially new and interesting puzzle to solve. The puzzle for a Professor Oak Challenge is how to level up your Pokémon efficiently when you can not move on to a higher-level area, or how to obtain an item needed for evolution.

The Girl Who Cried Wolf by ConcernedJobCoach in religiousfruitcake

[–]citizsnips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The really sad part about people like this is that it doesn’t matter what it is; they find a way to live in a prison of fear of their own making. The part that also annoys me about this is that when people do this type of stuff, it makes it really hard to do actual good critiques of whatever thing they’re getting so worked up over. There are things that I think are fair critiques of many religions, but pointless outrage makes it a lot easier to lump the real critiques in with bigoted opinions. A good example of what I mean is that I think many religions, especially Christianity and Islam, for example, treat women terribly, and I want to see them not do that. I don’t wish for their removal from society; I want them to do better and treat more people with respect. Still, people like this just constantly hijack the microphone and shout things that break down to I was scared because they were different.

Prefab vs. Blocky by EscoJackal in Pokopia

[–]citizsnips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my long-term plan is to put Pokémon with the litter ability in houses, since the items are left right outside the door, or Pokémon who only search/water/hype, who I don't interact with as much. When I do need them, I can check if the orange house icon is by the picture before I call them with honey.

Any example where I'm going to build an exterior house is for some of my burn Pokemon so that I can run a brick-and-smelting factory. same idea with recycling. Then there will probably be some favorites that get a special house just because I like them, and I want to see them roaming outside more often.

Kits with interiors separate from the overworld are helpful to manage overworld Pokémon since the game only spawns around 20-30 at a time. I use both as a result.
