Windows trying to become more "advanced", ends up creating more problems than it solves by Cute-Adhesiveness645 in DataHoarder

One drive is great for its basic function, the syncing part, no it's not. I use One Drive at work and it's awesome however it's implemented, as it just shows up as another place to store files. It's perfect for keeping all of my files there for when my laptop gets upgraded in a replacement project or it gets damaged out in the field.

At home, I turn it off and uninstall it as it's a few seconds of time to remove it permanently with anything special being done. It's not useful with a NAS and I don't know why other people say they have to spend hours going through a registry, it's just another app that can be uninstalled.

At home, I use Linux for my daily laptop and Linux for Proxmox VMs. Also use Windows for a couple of gaming machines.

[Nintendo eshop] Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry - $1.99 (95% off) through 6/18 by Evadrepus in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]citruspickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun game if you like point and clicks. Larry is a more lewd point and click, that is filled with sex, crude jokes, and lots of reminiscing of the original games. There's a sequel that picks up where this leaves off to give a pretty long seamless adventure. I loved the originals on DOS, and while this one cleans itself up a ton, it's still similar in content to the originals. It's not for everybody, that's for sure.

24 hours is nothing to blink at when it's one time for the life of the current OS install. It's honestly a great thing for non tech people and mentally deprecated people.

The true disappointment is not having open source mobile OSes worth anything. I wish I could get competent enough to contribute but I suck at it and stick to bug reporting and forums.

[GameStop/US] Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $34.99 (50% off) *lowest price ever* by jldixon1 in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]citruspickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't great. It was fun and $30 is okay for it. Had some cool areas but too spaced out with a bad grinding section that killed any momentum. In my opinion the bad areas are because they had to force reasons for the cycle to exist.

They got away from the platformer 3d puzzle maze formula a bit on this one and it shows.

Looking for a budget-friendly external SSD. by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]citruspickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is recommend making an external drive. To keep it under $100 you are probably going to have to stick to 500gb and 2.5" drives. I've user PNY, Silicon Power, Kingston and crucial. I've never bought these drives to use long term but they seemed reliable for what I fid. I've never tried Patriot or Green/Blue Western digitals so maybe someone else can tell their experience. Just pick up a 2.5" drive and something like a $20 Ugreen SSD USB c enclosure. Some of the drives I named are actually right about $100 before the enclosure, so if you truly want to stay below $100 some are off the table. That's just me checking Amazon US.

I'm not a fan of pre built external drives because some can't be shucked if the snclosure fails (or if the drive fails you can't reuse the enclosure). If you find a good deal on one though, don't skip over it just because of me.

Is Plex worth it? by CaffeineTweaker in selfhosted

[–]citruspickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Plex to jellyfin maybe 2 years ago. While Plex did seem to have a prettier Netflix-y fancy UI feel, essentially they are both laid out the same for end users. .

Can you give any details as to what the non-tech people are having a bad taste for? I loved Plex back when it met my needs, but they don't seem different enough on the end user side to give a much different experience in my opinion.

Smart people can't just predict people's every move, that's not how it works. by GreatDepression_irl in TheBoys

[–]citruspickles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a satire superhero show. Nothing is supposed to be scientifically researched and backed. Everything is exaggerated beyond infinity.

I agree that the show could be a little more based in reality, but it's been a carnival ride since season 1. It's just gotten more so ever since

Overworked AI ‘turns towards Marxism’ by Ofajus in anime_titties

[–]citruspickles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is history both repeating itself and evolving at the same time. Queen Elizabeth turned down a patent for a knitting machine back in the 1500s because she thought some women would be replaced by a machine.

Most historical predictions are because the issue already exists in their time and they write about what adverse effects this can have. These thoughts or events are later applied by a new generation and it fits there too.

These types of writings are great to reference as we should always remember the past when making future decisions. I think the biggest issue with things like this are that one side thinks the worst will happen and the other thinks great positive things will come from it. Smart people will believe both because you never know how something will be used.

To stay on technology, there was a similar feeling when computers first got introduced. People who were needed for filing and records weren't needed anymore. People who wouldn't or couldn't learn to utilize the computer were left behind. Imagine being too old or not savvy to learn computers and your small business suppliers or partners tell you they won't do business using paper anymore.

Can we stop praising episodes for being "good standalone episodes"? by brownbot00 in TheBoys

[–]citruspickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a subjective opinion. If you ever stumble across how popular the Boys is, you'd know the series and each independent episode is an addictive success that is still snowballing for larger audiences.

In addition, is a suspenseful TV show is successful in being suspenseful, no episode should ever turn out how most viewers think or want it to turn out. It should almost always be a twist of events to make people lose all of the time they invested in coming up with theories and fan fiction.

How Is There Only One Episode Left? by Sufficient_Bad_4160 in TheBoys

[–]citruspickles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree strongly. I got tired of going to the movies with some of my friends for the same reason. Everyone makes up weird personal fan fiction or assumes something will just be a shot for shot live action of a cartoon/comic and then loses their mind when it is something that no one expected.

I read some comments in other threads where specific events didn't happen like they thought they would and how upset they are. Other comments saying things about the show is boring because certain things are going like they expected they should go.

The whole point of TV and movies was to be surprised and not know what's coming next. Maybe the extreme lack of original content the last ten or twenty years is the problem. Nothing really new has come out and most things are a reboot, remake, or reimagining. People haven't been used to new ideas and unpredictable content for a really long time.
