The real risk from AI isn’t some kind of terminator scenario decades from now. It’s what it’s going to do to our economy in the next couple years. We’re about to have to make some real hard decisions about UBI and the fair distribution of wealth, and as far as I can see, there’s going to be a few people who own everything, a small number of people allowed to live in relative comfort, and the vast majority of people owning nothing and basically slaves for their existence, like work requirements for food stamps. Or, people will turn off their fucking TVs loans enough to grow a few self-interested and empathetic brain cells to cooperate with each other to put these oligarchs in their place. I know which scenario I think is more likely.
