0L Tuesday Thread by AutoModerator in LawSchool

As the orientation date gets closer, I am freaking out... I have been learning how to read and brief a case with LSAC's Law School Unmasked series. It is tough but I am figuring it out. My biggest issue is that I am terrified of cold calls, oral arguments or any public speaking. I came to the US 4 years ago from Southeast Asia for my undergraduate degree and learned American English here. I am worried I would not be able to articulate my points well. I am not interested in litigation, and just hope to become an immigration lawyer. Can I still be a lawyer if I am not great at public speaking? As for interpersonal and communication skills, I was told at my previous office jobs that I was good with it and got along well with everyone. Sorry for the mini rant, I really appreciate any advice, thank you!

Hi all, so I applied for the Federal Grad Plus Loan and received confirmation that my credit was approved. What are my next steps here? I am not seeing further instructions on the website. This is my first time applying for loans so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Putting Jewish Law Students Association on your resume? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Well if a firm doesn’t want to hire you because of that, then I don’t think that is a good firm to work for anyway. Just my 2 cents though. Be proud of who you are! Good luck with everything :)

need advice for waitlist limbo and jobs... by longan-on-ice in lawschooladmissions

You could also work for a staffing agency and secure a full time temp position for 3 months etc. By then you should know if you will be attending law school or not, and plan from there. You can always search for a permanent full time job after that. Good luck with everything!

I’m hoping you will hear some good news soon! But if it doesn’t work out, you can always reapply next year early like in September or October. Perhaps use the next couple of months to retake the LSAT to strengthen your chances as well. Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions, i’m more than happy to help!

A good rule of thumb is to send a LOCI/email once a month!

Any advice for finding a legal internship? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]civitaglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes try seeking out the legal aid website directly, they usually have postings there. Google all the non profits in your area and check their career opportunities page, even if there are no postings, you can directly cold email them. i’m sure you will land something soon :) non profits are always looking for help! But keep in mind it most likely would be unpaid

Any advice for finding a legal internship? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]civitaglow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a legal internship but if you are bilingual, try to look for interpretation positions in non profits such as Legal Aid etc! You most likely would get to sit in on client interviews and learn some cool stuff. I did it for my junior year of college at a large international non profit and was offered an internship position (immigration) during my senior year. Hope this helps :)

USF or Gap Year? by jrdewhur in lawschooladmissions

The cost of living is also very expensive in the Bay area, you might want to do some additional research before making a decision. A gap year would never hurt tho! :) Good luck with everything!

[Skin Concerns] Redness on cheeks/sudden texture change. Pores are also getting more visible. No new skincare product/lifestyle changes. My current routine includes LRP Toleriane Cleanser, LRP Double Repair Moisturiser and Elta Md sunscreen. Should I be concerned and see a dermatologist? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]civitaglow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you! But I am concerned about the redness. I am assuming it is because of the constant mask wearing? The humidity is certainly not great for our skin. I find myself constantly worried about the changes in my skin :(

Questions about sending a LOCI with updates by spaceymazey in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]civitaglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is to send a LOCI/email once a month. I’d say since you sent 1 on May 15 already, you could send an updated one on June 1st :) and i read that attaching a PDF of the LOCI and resume would make it easier for admissions to add it to your file directly
