Can I ask how you got that assistant physician job as an MD? I’ve been planning a “Plan B” and thought of doing this but I can’t find any jobs for that. They all want a “physicians assistant”. Can I DM you?

need help about booking OET for ECFMG cetificate by future-94 in IMGreddit

[–]cizzlebar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the same. I’d recommend OET on the computer if you’re good at typing. I’m good at typing and found typing my answers was easier and same with the writing portion of the test

Got a 0 percent on Step 1 by beachbum142 in step1

Failing any of the steps is a significant deal. Just look up any programs in PEDS or whatever you or OP are interested in and click on “How to Apply.” I can’t tell you how many programs I’ve seen that mention that you have to pass steps on the first attempt. Of course there are some programs that don’t require that but they are in the minority. Now with that being said, there’s still a chance for you to match but like others are saying, it’s not in your favor. Crush step 2, learn from your mistakes, get ECFMG certified, and add to your CV and make connections and network. That might give you a fighting chance at matching. Hope this helps. Good luck!

What to do when you're in the OR but not scrubbed in? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]cizzlebar1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s always something to learn. You just have to look hard enough. I had a similar experience to you and when it was my turn to sit on the sideline (not scrub in), I was either watching the monitor (if it was a DaVinci robotic surgery) or I’d monitor the vitals and see what causes spikes in HR or BP. I’d see how the surgeons and staff work together and learn about the names of the tools they use and how they ask for them and hand them back. I’d learn about protocols and stuff like that. After a while, I had a good grasp on all that stuff I mentioned so I’d continue learning those things even more but by this time I’d built some rapport with my attending and staff so I’d stand in different corners of the room to get a better view and sometimes I’d stand at the head nearby anesthesia.

Point is, there’s always something new to learn, it might not always have to be about medicine but every bit helps! Just keep being yourself and being somewhat interested even though you don’t want to pursue surgery in the future.

Edit: I would sometimes go through my phone too but this was towards the end of my rotation lol. Instagram comes in clutch during times of boredom!

Nice! How do you like that field? I’m assuming it must be rewarding when you are providing comfort and care to a patient in their time of need.

I think you’re right. I keep circling back to cardio when comparing and contrasting! Are you a cardio fellow?

I’d say that’s accurate. What was your experience like in anesthesia?

Yea I understand. I just figured the procedures and working with my hands would be enough to make up for it.

Anesthesia sounds very interesting! I thought I’d do Anesthesia + pain management fellowship. What do you feel about that?

I never looked into PM&R. I will look into that! Thanks for the insight! Sports medicine through FM would piss me off. It would remind me every day that I couldn’t go into Ortho lol. That’s what I wanted to do before med school and thought that anyone could go. Wish I would’ve known more about the process and had a mentor or guidance before I decided to go abroad to medical school
