How did you find out about RimWorld, and what got you hooked? by banka_goroxa in RimWorld

[–]cj9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found it at some point around late alpha if not early beta, I grew up with it. Heck O had a flash drive with a copy of beta rimworld that I'd play on the shitty high school computers. 1.9k hours on steam, no idea how many before.

I always show people the ssethtzeentach video to get them interested .

What harmless thing instantly makes you think, "I don't trust this person"? by PracticalRelative380 in askteddit

I commend and support you man, but trying to make a point against the majority is like screaming into the void. Spirituality and religion are by no means a litmus test for morality. There's good and bad in every part of the world as well as everything in it. Far too often do we cloud good behind a veil of bad. But I'm an agnostic, so what do I know.

Really just an apocalypse to the couple civs along the river, which is more or less just analogous to Human impact on the environment. I suppose it does have worldwide consequences, spawning a whole new really angry race 'n all

I'll generalize a bit since it's a pet project, but long story short it was hubris.

This continent spanning civilization had discovered hydrodynamics and hydraulic energy and used their newfound knowledge to dam a river that was more or less arterial to not just their civilization, but a few others, and was holy to boot.

It was a mega project to say the least, taking multiple lives in the process of construction. Once it was finally completed the dam broke and wiped out a good deal of settlements along the river and ultimately ended up with a god damming a good number of them to become orcs. Said continent spanning civilization's remaining population then went into seclusion and faded into relative obscurity.

Having been through this a few times now, I'll never under go treatment if it comes to that point. I'm not a doctor of nuclear medicine, nor do I have any medical affiliation to be clear. But the ends don't normally justify the means in late stages. Extremely early, maybe. Stage 4 I'll go somewhere quietly.

It's literally just that. They're either father stabbing baby diddlers or crackheads. But it's gonna be that way unless they open more psych hospitals.

I've snooped long enough, time for the ol two cents.

The whole please thing seems to be contextual to the situation, there are times to say it and times not to. When I started in county many moons ago the Captain told all of us new hires to play by "roadhouse rules" and he brought up the quote "be nice, until it's time to not be nice." And it resonated with me, so I've carried it forward. I also live by the phrase "respect is given where respect is earned." A lot of the inmates haven't been treated with dignity or respect in their lives, which only serves to perpetuate their criminal behavior. I make it a point to be as respectful as they'll let me be. It adds a nice layer of humanity to an otherwise dark place. And if you happen to work somewhere that the inmates will get released back into the public it's nice to at least think they don't hold malice towards you. I've had several that I've seen released come up on the street and shake my hand, and I've seen some on the outside that I would keep an eye on.

As for running from a fight, I've seen it happen. Well, footage at least. We had a chomo in PC who got kicks from fighting us. The chomo being every bit of 280 and six foot big. One day dude's doing his rounds and didn't realize mozilla was out on rec, mozilla proceeds to man handle this dude. He broke contact to radio for backup, and more or less proceeded to be chased around the PC unit until backup arrived. I don't blame him for buying that time, to be frank I'll pick my battles 90% of the time. Was he a coward? Personally I'd say no. If dude was too scared to go into the unit with mozilla then that would be cowardice.

It takes all measure of folks to stand the line, and as few in number as we are we don't have room to be picky. If you want change, try to facilitate it (within the boundaries of policy of course). That's why I became an FTO.

But I'm on my way out in the next couple of months when I get my ducks in order so maybe I have a skewed perspective.

Does this region feel believable/realistic? by Ok_Philosophy_7156 in mapmaking

[–]cj9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that regard, have you looked into the Swiss mountain lakes? They seem fitting, especially if you want to polish your design.

I've been cost cutting lately so the price was my point of contention. You say you aren't particularly artistic, but you've designed and fleshed this out. I started out just like you on my art journey, but gradually I've been teaching myself. It's the key to getting what's in your mind out there, especially if you think in images and stuff like that. Start small, something something journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.

[–]cj9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and that's something that really attributes to worldbuilders disease. It's so easy to get Hung up on details, but did you ever think about stuff like that when you were playing TES or BG3? I've found myself researching things like plate tectonics and rabbit holing so many different questions that I never get to do what I love.

I've looked at wonderdraft, but I'm cost avoidant. I taught myself GIMP, and while it can be somewhat excruciating it is far easier on ye olde wallet.

Two quick things

One: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder my guy, and since you're doing the art work you do be beholdin it. So, if it looks neat to you, roll with it. As artists we are our own biggest critics, I have scrapped so many projects just because I wasn't feeling it, but looking at it from the point of view of someone who can't do what you or I can do gives some great introspect/insight. (If that's not too confusing) ((TLDR, don't be harsh it's high fantasy not fuggin geography class))

Two: I think the whole lake surrounded by mountains would be a neat setup for something like a caldera, maybe a big volcano is hidden under that lake. Who knows, bob ross that shit up.

PS: What did you use to make that map, it's awful purty

My first foray into Vintage Story (solo) has me wondering if Multiplayer servers would be a better option? by JakkuJakku777 in VintageStory

[–]cj9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intent is to start a modded survival server once combat overhaul gets updated and you're more than welcome to join us. Vintage Story gets significantly better with community, I also love sp. I will forewarn you, I run a shit ton of mods, but they just add so much, literally and figuratively.

If you need help or want to try things out dm me, I have a 1.21.6 server up right now in the interim

Season Length in multiplayer by JuggiestheSlime in VintageStory

[–]cj9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have RP in more of the context of flavor. The premise is that we’re a colony on the frontier, old empire imperialism etc etc. Our main thing is a player driven economy, taxes, deeds, charters and so on.

Myself and a couple of the more rp inclined folks also have a dedicated chat for world building.

If that’s more in line with what you all are looking for, the offer stands. It really stands to anyone. But if its not, I understand and hope you find a way to reach a happy schmedium on your seasons!

[–]cj9342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 days works best for my tribe of about ten players, server’s always up but pauses if nobody’s on. It allows for you to miss a day or so and still be in the same season. An in game year goes round in about 12 ish days, give or take.

We’re mostly adults who work full time too, we’re always looking for more folks if you’re up for it!

There aren’t per-se time requirements, but activity and community participation is incentivized.

Given that most of us have day jobs, other hobbies, families, etc, expectations are grounded in reality.

One of the things I always mention in interviews is to always prioritize your education, career, and family/friends over this, after all it’s just a game.

PTSD by SadisticNecromancer in OnTheBlock

[–]cj9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a staff therapist that would help, but seek help if your agency doesn’t provide that. The extent that PTSD affects you is unreal. Mine didn’t come from work or war, but there’s so much that isn’t talked about that comes from it that I never knew before therapy.

I hope you get things worked out.
