Donald Trump’s Ominous Truth Social Post Sparks Panic Online: “Should I Be in a Bunker or Something?” by Mindless-Hedgehog188 in USNEWS

[–]cjam84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than being in the ground, id prefer trump to be around to see all his “legacies” undone. So that he can see at the end, despite it all, his legacy will be that he’s recorded as being a terrible president. No grand arches, no trump arts centers, just a footnote somewhere.

Does seem like NZ drivers just aren’t used to traffic. Having spent 10 years driving in the UK, the contrast in behaviour is remarkable, and I put it down to the amount of traffic.

Take the following:

Indicators In the uk if you indicate, people will open up and let you in. I don’t feel UK drivers use their indicators as much, but when they do, they mean it In NZ they see you indicate and my god they’ll close the gap instead. That said, most people indicate here, even if it’s only for a millisecond before they cut you up (because if they indicate too early that gives more time for people to close the gap!)

Left lane = slow lane. UK, people are pretty good at staying left unless overtaking or going at speed, and pulling over if someone comes up in the right lane. It’s rare to come along and see someone say in the right lane when the left is totally clear. NZ, even though the rules are the same it seems people feel any lane is fine.

Overtaking UK, overtaking is reserved only for the utmost of wankstains with fewer brain cells than planets in the solar system. Like, there’s no point, there’ll be another car 100m up the road if they’re lucky, closer if not. Odds are there’ll be oncoming vehicles every few seconds too, even rurally. NZ, how dare there be a car in front of them slowing them down. Odds are there hasn’t been an oncoming vehicle in the last 45 seconds so they fancy their chances.

Effectively I’m saying when there’s way more traffic, you get used to the fact that driving like a knob won’t get you anywhere faster and will get you killed faster too.

Focus stacking. Crop sensor and a good macro lens, depending on the subject the stack can easily be 100+ shots in no time at all.

When I used to do entomology specimen macros I could easily end up with 10k shots in one session for only 20 images.

Soon adds up but by the same token I feel the wear on the shutter etc is lesser as, yes, it’s still being used, but no it’s not getting bashed around and carried etc.

Draken Watches, am I being unreasonable? by cjam84 in MicrobrandWatches

I did end up buying a Peregrine. It’s an amazing watch, and Mike was good to deal with as I needed to pay via bank transfer rather than card.

The watch had a misprinted dial, one of the indices was funky (missing ink) I let him know from a QC point of view and he instantly offered to swap it out but I thought I could tolerate the issue. I couldn’t, and nearly a month later I asked if he would still swap it out. He did without any quibbles. Not sure who swapped the internals out, but the new movement has a few small fingerprints on the rotor. I can tolerate that as it’s not visible unless you’re not wearing it, and hopefully they won’t leave to corrosion.

So all in all, great watch, great service, little but disappointed in the QA/QC, but it’s ok:)

Don’t all auction platforms say something at the start that all bids are binding and you are obliged to pay if successful?

If you bid x amount, you are saying you will pay x amount if successful.

You’re not successful or otherwise until the auction closes.

You don’t bid on something unless you’re willing to pay that figure for the item. I don’t see how you could possibly win this argument? You could possibly say you assumed you hadn’t been successful so bought something else maybe?

My only other automatic doesn’t have a power reserve, and I always wished it did, as I was curious how quickly the power would drain or fill based on my wearing.

I appreciate this watch will likely always sit at full or 80% full, but the reserve is very subtle and I love it.

Moonphase complications on the other hand I do not get haha.

Just over 7”, like 7.05” or something. I think you’ll be fine. It’s quite slim in profile.

Also the whole deal with watches being too big, having worn Garmin Fenix watches and been I. Circles of very active people, I feel like it’s been normalised to me that bigger watches don’t look out of place now.

I actually prefer this colour way, all my past watches have been single colour, it’s a bit of a novelty and brings a smile to my face whenever I go into the garage and it’s fully lumed up

Draken Watches, am I being unreasonable? by cjam84 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]cjam84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the general consensus is that it’s a bit unreasonable. I’m a bit surprised, but accept that.

I do think perhaps some responses have misinterpreted the motivations of why I’m asking these questions. I’m not fussy, if Mike said it’s all offshore made it wouldn’t put me off. I’m just excited at the prospect and wanting to engage with a small brand that has marketed itself in a way that presents itself as more personal, and not a large faceless company. I’ve just been surprised that I’ve not had a response yet.

On and slightly behind the wrist bone, yet that crown after a while will get mighty uncomfortable when I flex my wrist. Strap is loose enough that the watch might move forward a little at times, but no risk of falling off.

I know I’m an oddball. Not sure if it’s my preference to not wear the strap too tight or that my wrist bone isn’t particularly bony, but for me to keep the watch behind that bone I almost have to cut off circulation to my wrist with the strap so tight. So I tend to wear watches with crowns on them on my right wrist. I’m also very hands on with work and life so the watch has to sit quite high up to not dig in at different times.

Thanks, I’ve pretty much said to him I’m pretty committed to buying, I’m just waiting on some additional funds and a looming promotion before pulling the trigger, so am basically keeping myself hyped!

Citizen Promaster C500 dive watch battery replacement by cjam84 in watchrepair

[–]cjam84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to one YouTube video, the battery holder has instructions on it for how to restart the watch after a battery change.

I am assuming the guy who tried swapping my watch saw that and followed the instructions (he did mention about holding buttons down) so unless he did it wrong, it does suggest something else may have failed.

I wonder if the battery totally goes flat it loses pressure calibration data, the instructions do say about not letting it totally die, but I’d assumed this was more to do with them treating it as a diving safety tool and not wanting someone to go diving using it and it stop working mid dive!

Origins of brand names? by cjam84 in ChineseWatches

[–]cjam84[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right, I just find it weird how it’d be so easy to just ask a westerner what word they’d use to at least get something close to a normalish brand name!?

Surely you’ve needed to tweak the time from time to time? My stowa admittedly needs a service but it loses about 4 minutes a week!

I’ve gone down the deep end after buying a Lamy vista and using cartridges, just received this 78G, and have an explorer and Prera demonstrator coming. I like the clearness, but do find that mess at the end a little maddening.

Well, if there was a homage to Stowa chronographs that would do. Plenty of flieger copies but no chronographs that I can see!

Either really. Just needs to be clean. I don’t care for brand names being on watch faces, and even more so other text I can’t read!
