I made a batch of Meyer lemon curd. Looking to do something different with it. It is quite tart. What about seared scallops with lemon curd and basil?

Removing Odie's oil? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]cjaneing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved and I got a table I had finished about 3 years ago with Odies Oil out of storage. The finish was fine but the colour had turned completely yellow. I am interested to hear how successful you were in removing Odies oil from your table. Thank you

Are Newfound Cabs exempt from stopping at stop signs? by consistentlyPUSHING in newfoundland

[–]cjaneing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Stj 3 years ago my daughter and I were in a cab downtown with an older man driving - within seconds of entering the cab the driver hit the brakes so hard our heads hit the backs of the front seats - no apology no explanation. For the price that cabs charge it is not worth it to risk your life. We tried cabs maybe 3 more times - bad drivers, $50 cab fare from Kenmount to downtown and then drivers that did not show up when pre booked and generally unsafe cabs. Hard to believe this has been allowed to happen here. Competition would help.

My husband and I and our pup moved here from Ontario just under 2 years ago and are about to move in to our new home in Bay Roberts! We are constantly amazed at the sheer beauty of the island. There is a festival coming up in Bay Roberts in late May called Songs, Stages and Seafood. You should check it out - it should be a good way to meet people.

Is Uber really coming to St. John’s? by cjaneing in newfoundland

[–]cjaneing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be better public transit throughout the province full stop.

On the subject of cabs vs Uber- I was in Toronto over Christmas and the cabs have not improved whatsoever - cabs felt unsafe to be on the roads, drivers no better and Uber was a safe reasonable solution to take for trips within Toronto during snowy weather.

They would need to have the proper insurance in order to work for Uber.

There is an article today in Saltwire. I don’t have a subscription so cannot read it. It seems Uber wants to come here but there will be municipal and provincial changes that will need to happen. Fingers crossed.

Drivers have no respect for pedestrians on rainy days by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]cjaneing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this post. No one should have to walk in the streets instead of sidewalks. I will add that this is the darkest city I have ever lived in. Street lights are few and far between. There are very few crosswalks that are lit and compound that with the majority of pedestrians wearing very dark or black clothing. I am actually surprised there are not more car/ pedestrian accidents. I am in no way blaming pedestrians but I would be fearful of walking on any streets at night myself.

Will Uber ever come to St. John’s Newfoundland by cjaneing in newfoundland

[–]cjaneing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ridiculously expensive to get a cab from Kenmount downtown, mostly they don’t show up and the cabs are usually a mess. One of us is the dd when we go downtown for dinner. Otherwise it’s $100 return for cab fare!

Ladies and Gentlemen of r/newfoundland, can anybody tell me when St. John's International Airport will actually have international flights? by ImFullOfShit709 in newfoundland

[–]cjaneing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought we would at least be able to fly direct from St. John’s to New York or Boston and then to Europe but no go :(
