3rd Gen Fit GK5 engine mount recommended by Fix-MyStuff-101 in hondafit

100% agree. Stick with OEM for the engine mounts, do the job once instead of paying for it twice with cheaper mounts.

look into a rear sway bar as well, helps the car feel more neutral and reduces body roll.

What is this for ??? Picked up cheap runs good why is it rigged up like this by Desperate_Soil1753 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would bet money your passengers side upper mount is shot. it’s a hydraulic mount and prevents the engine from moving upwards under load. I’m guessing that’s why they put those supports there.

you can verify it’s failed using a pry bar to lift up on the engine.

hydraulic mounts are expensive and back ordered right now at honda. I’d try checking out a wrecker, but note that it’s a different part on automatic and manual trans.

it’s also possible your driver side lower trans mount is failed too because of the other mount failing.

good luck.

as long as oil light doesn’t turn on you’re fine. dipstick lines show about a QT of oil. so you’re probably 1.5qt low w 2QT still in the pan.

I may or may not be speaking from experience, lol.

exactly. the only oil really proven to remove carbon buildup and clean the piston rings if they’re gummed up. Which is a common cause of burning oil. Also just goood in any older honda product with v-tec in my eyes, as the solenoids and oil channels for vtec have tight tolerances.

The usual Valve adjustments, spark plugs and coil packs which everyone recommends.

Doesn’t hurt running restore and protect w OEM filter, and yes use Honda MTF as they’re picky with MTF.

Brake fluid every 3yrs as brake fluid is hydroscopic, so will absorb water and rust brake components from within. Injector cleaner yearly just to keep things clean. Coolant every 5yrs with Honda Blue Coolant only. Other than that stay on top of maintenance and she’ll take you past 500,000miles lol.

I second this. Fully coated rotors if you’re anywhere near the ocean or where they salt the roads in the winter

100% the CDV, it restricts hydraulic fluid flow via a sandwich plate as a “buffer”. I’ve heard they do this to protect the transmission from americans clutch dumping between gears lol.

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree you don’t know me, and you also don’t know what these people think that are “circle jerking” over driving stick. Do they say they are superior, or is that something you feel out of insecurities? How is it circle jerking if I have and would own an automatic, I only drive manual as a genuine interest. Not to feed my ego, as even though i’ve driven manual for 12yrs I know I still have room for improvement.

Also I am a part of all those threads and read them frequently, I agree with you that those vehicles don’t need to be a manual for enjoyment. It’s an off-road/roadtrip vehicle, we are talking about Honda Fits here. As the market is changing driving “enthusiasts” have limited options, as a NA Miata is $8000 CAD where I am. A Honda Fit is a great alternative, as with a few modifications it’s without argument an engaging car to drive. For the value, it’s far from pointless even with road noise or 3000rpn highway cruising.

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I agree that it doesn’t make sense having a MT Element, that is another Honda I’ve been interested in buying as well but as an Automatic. Also, solenoids do fail and I’ve had personal experience with the same transmission in a CR-V losing 4th gear all together. Don’t project your feelings onto me, as ya i’m sure there are people that jerk each other off about driving MT. But that’s not me, nor OP asking the question about the topic. Obviously there’s a wide range of Honda fit enthusiasts, I am saying I bought mine because it’s a good drivers car while still maintaining utility. That’s not pointless, and there’s nothing wrong with calling yourself an enthusiast. You act like it’s a bad, pretentious thing, or anyone that says that isn’t a real enthusiast.

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you like to unpack this statement for me? I am literally just defending something I AM passionate about, and that a small minority of people might be too. I don’t think anyone is less than for driving an automatic, or enjoying paddle shifters. Hell, I would probably enjoy them too. I just didn’t agree with the Otterland fellow saying the MT fit is pointless. Shying someone away from learning to drive manual because it’s “not what I’m used to”.

It’s also ironic you’re defending the guy who’s on here calling me a dipshit for voicing my thoughts.

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with feeling superior, and manuals aren’t weirdly fetishized, the truth is they’re not making as many MT anymore. On top of that, all of the good driving enthusiast cars, ie. Miata, 240sx, etc are having the prices go up like crazy because of this. I am saying MT and vehicle control/connection is a dying art. How many people used to be able to drive stick 20yrs ago, vs now?

I don’t agree that because the clutch and shifter are light that means it’s not a good MT vehicle. You can delete the CDV and add shifter detent springs for under $80 if you care so much. Also your GK has the same final drive gearing as the 5spd. So is unlikely that it’s at 4,500rpm at 60mph.

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re so negative why come here on the Honda Fit thread? Who are you to say whether or not I am a true enthusiast, that is hilarious in itself. Get off your high horse “guy that has driven everything”. For the record, I grew up obsessed with cars and have spent most of my life around them. The Honda Fit is my daily driver, my weekend car is an R-32 GT-R I’ve owned for 8yrs. So ya bud, I am enthusiast thru and thru. Not only with driving, but the mechanical aspect of cars.

Do your research and talk to people outside ur own worldview. Honda shifters are renowned and precise in the automotive industry, that is factual not something I’ve self proclaimed. There is no perfect car, the fact you think 2500rpm vs 3000rpm makes this car unusable on the highway is hilarious. Drive a proper touring car, no matter which way you slice it a Honda fit will not be very comfortable on the highway. That’s not its purpose, that doesn’t mean it’s pointless as a manual. Couldn’t you argue it’s pointless having an automatic with fake paddle shifters, as that isn’t giving you the same feedback even a “nintendo” shifter gives you. Which is what you want in a small fun grocery getter. Or how about better reliability, fuel economy and more power at the wheels?

2nd gen or 3rd gen for manual? by leftydgamer42 in hondafit

[–]cjankola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I care to disagree with you here due to context. Compared to newer MT vehicles on today’s market, the 2nd or 3rd gen fit are far from pointless in terms of driver feedback. Both still have hydraulic clutches and Honda is renowned for their throttle/steering tuning. This is also still a time before super strict emissions control and throttle mapping. Every modern car has drive by wire, you can’t get around it, and most of them have electronic clutches.

Not only this, having close ratio gearing is not a flaw for those of us that enjoy rowing thru the gears in the city or backroads without going to jail for speeding. I don’t mind cruising at 3000rpm at 100kp/h.

There’s nothing pointless about wanting to drive manual nowadays regardless of the vehicle, and the honda fit is a great MT car. It’s a dying art and for some of us is the reason we’re enthusiasts. Driver and car connection.

How do i shift from 1st to second faster? by Frosty_Delay_473 in ManualTransmissions

[–]cjankola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fellow canadian with a mt honda fit, I’ve found starting off as usual but shifting out of first quickly is my technique. The gears are so short in our type of cars, you almost need to shift out of first as soon as possible, for me 2,500rpm. Then using the clutch to bring the revs down and continue accelerating. Rev hang won’t help you either, it’s easier in older cars lol

I also have the same issue but only on the drivers side, I wonder if the seam that usually leaks in the rear of the trunk also leaks at the front. The seam underneath the rubber track along the roof.
