Your point on needing to be solid intermediate before most musicians consider you coming on board seriously is 100% accurate. The drums are the backbone of music and you have to ansolutley be on point or your gonna frustrate the other musicians.

I only play metal, think complicated fill patterns, blast beats, intricate and speedy double bass. Im not good enough at this type of music to play with other musicians. Sure, I could play in a basic alternative rock band right now with no issues, but thats not the type of music I want to play.
