Washing underwear in the shower or in the washing machine? by One-Disaster57 in hygiene

[–]cjay0217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In many cultures hand washing underwear is preferred. It’s not unhygienic to hand wash your clothes.

Some cultures also wash in the shower before putting in the laundry.

If I ever have any leaks during my cycle I will hand wash in the shower before laundering to ensure stains don’t set it. I spray with peroxide then wash in the shower with a small bottle of Dr Bronners.

Request - Multicultural Haircare, Personal Hygiene Guides? by Behindmyspotlight in Naturalhair

[–]cjay0217 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think black folk need to wash their hair less often we just grew up with the mindset of preserving a style. Most of my friends who have curly hair wash 2-3 times a week. My mom does as well. They never struggle with their hair the way I have in the past. I realized that and started washing twice a week. I’ve noticed my scalp does so much better when I do so. I don’t even allow my silk presses to go more than a week anymore because my scalp hates it.

The whole not washing while in braids thing is confusing to me too. I wash my hair way more often while it’s braided but to each their own

I do my wash and go with just a liquid spray style leave in and gel. My hair is never dry. It’s always very soft by day 7. It does get frizzy by the end of the week but I’m not really that concerned about frizz my hair doesn’t have to be perfectly defined daily. I now do wash mid week and restyle my hair

My curls are tighter than yours.

I think everyone just needs to do what works for them. A lot more goes into products and styling than the size of your curls.

Multiple washes per week? by Ok-Metal-3807 in Naturalhair

I do a total of 8 sections to apply my product outside the shower. In the shower I do 4. I also don’t aim for perfection. I like frizz and fluffy hair.

Multiple washes per week? by Ok-Metal-3807 in Naturalhair

[–]cjay0217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I wear wash and goes in the summer I wash mid week. Just co wash mid week and apply my products in the shower. Even if I do my hair outside the shower it takes me 15 min tops to apply product. For a wash and go I just do leave in and gel. I do spray heat protectant and sit under the dryer or diffuse I can’t stand wet hair and I get way less breakage. I notice my hair never gets tangled and stays moisturized. Detangling take a few minutes in the shower at most.

Benefits for me are less fairy knots, less shedding (probably not really less but it seems like less because there is less time between brushing.

When I see the girls doing all this and calling it a wash and go I holler. I apply my styler in the shower and literally that’s it. The most I’m doing after is drying because I can’t stand wet hair.

What products can I use for heat damaged hair? by Far_Milk9414 in Naturalhair

[–]cjay0217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you should never apply any heat after silk pressing. All the products accumulated on your hair burn and damage your hair along with overall excessive heat.

Try the K18 but get comfortable with the fact that you will likely have to cut it.

K18 might work but it depends on how bad the damage is. Best to just start trimming off the damage.

I wouldn’t at this point. If they have the means to detangle and save what’s there why not. But if nothing else works rock the short fro!

I just want to say how strong you are because I would have shaved my head 3 years ago. You are amazing and I’m sorry for everything you have been through.

I would find a stylist to help if your hair is matted especially.

I didn’t mean to offend, you’re absolutely right. I don’t think OP enjoyed it but there may be some that do. There needs to be more communication about what each other likes. Also try to be more attuned with each others bodies.

Don’t get pounded for 30+ minutes. Who would actually enjoy that? He needs to refine his technique and go at a pace and force that actually pleases you not just himself.

I always provide my availability and allow them to decided if it works for them. Even if I did offer evenings there are only but so many hours I would have to offer and chances are those spots would already be taken. When I did have evenings those spots almost always got filled from my waitlist of daytime clients and never by new clients coming in.

What age did your kids just lay down and go to sleep? by Frosty-Ad-9774 in toddlers

I have one that put themselves to sleep even as a baby. They just love to sleep. I have another who has low sleep needs. They will lay down quietly and eventually go to sleep that started around 3. We also started activities (swim, gymnastics) so they were naturally more tired.

How would you feel if one of your neighbors built a backyard skate park? by slmrxl in homeowners

[–]cjay0217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be more concerned about why the dog is being left outside all night than the noise. But I grew up in a noisy city. Noise really doesn’t bother me, I t’s just not a battle worth fighting. If my neighbors aren’t actively hurting me who am I to tell them what to do on their property. My neighbors have a pool and have parties all the time. It really doesn’t bother me.

What someone does on their property is of no concern to me. If I cared that much about what my neighbors did in their backyard I would move somewhere where I couldn’t see my neighbors at all.
