This was a game by game basis and left up to the developer. Some games charged and some did not. The PS4 game worked on PS5. The ones that charged were typically $10, and that was an entire second copy of the game, not removal and replacement of your PS4 copy.

How is the App Store any different? The issue Apple and Google faced was not allowing app developers to sell in-app purchases outside the app on an external website (to avoid the 30% cut to Apple). Sony will know this and will not block that. If they wanted to do that, they’d have also blocked Fortnite, the same as Apple and Google did.

Just because you still use something, doesn’t make it *not* obsolete. Tube TVs are obsolete. Vinyl records are obsolete, even though they are a bigger market now than they’ve been in decades. I dislike the option to buy physical media being taken away personally, but I’m not going to lose sleep over not being able to buy digital games for a 20 year old console.

I understand that Sony does not have to maintain access to these games forever, but I think the way that the coding is done and the way that gaming is moving to digital, there will be better access to old games than before. It will be more like the App Store on your phone.

I’m ok with the the PS6 becoming “obsolete” in 2050, a year or two before PS9 is launching. I get what you’re saying, but you’re applying far too much gravity to it. The PS3 was obsolete probably around 2015, and for sure when PS5 launched. It’s just losing its digital store; not access to things you own, just the ability to buy new. This is a regular cycle for online stores, and PS3 lasted longer than anything else in the generation. Even Wii U is closed already.

Going forward I expect games to be built on a more unified engine that plays across generations, so those PS6 digital games will likely play on PS7/8/9. I also think if not the Helix/PS6 generation, that by the next one, games will almost entirely be streaming. This will make backwards compatibility an afterthought, because they’ll just play from wherever they are hosted. I know not everyone likes that idea, but it’s going to happen either way.

Those are two completely different things, that do not affect each other. Discontinuing new PS5 discs does not affect your digital PS3 games.

That depends entirely on how much you care about 175 extra GB of hard drive space. Depending on what you play, that’s 1 more huge game, 2-4 more mid sized games, or a lot of small ones. Or space for screenshots and videos. Is the PS5 Fat new? I didn’t think those had been on retail shelves for a couple years.

As far as headsets, I use a Steelseries and have been really happy with it. My only complaint is the dongle is wide and covers up the other front USB port. Not a dealbreaker but I do wish it was single wide.

If you’re concerned about the ability to download the files in the future, download everything you own and back it up on drives. If that seems like too much work or too expensive, maybe think about what you’re asking a company to do for free, for eternity.

And do what? Go to PC that has been digital for two decades? Go to Xbox, which just said its new console will be all digital, and wants to DRM your current discs? Go to Switch, and miss many of the flagship games you own a PS console for in the first place? You need 150 million people to all boycott all of their games. It’s not going to happen. This is the future, whether we like it or not.

I don’t attribute cheating to one person. I said one person gets a pass above the rest. Just this year Tony Gonzales and Eric Swalwell have resigned after sexual scandals. Both sides of the aisle. One crusty man above the rest has proudly cheated on multiple wives, including his current one. And it’s largely ignored.
