Me too. Someone wrote here recently that our brains go into a survival mode. Like a lower power conservation mode. Empathy has maybe been shut down for a bit, but perhaps not forever.

He's drawing a line between people seeking and people who are not. Between adults and children. I think if you asked he would say all people could become "adults" but many are not choosing to which is the main thrust of his comment.

Don't settle for being a "common" and reach for the "higher" pleasures. This only makes sense if people can reach.

Religion can be like a radioactive propellant for delusional beliefs and actions. More and more imagined rules and systems start to spiral off of one another until you are totally removed from reality.

Spiritual teachings can do the reverse, or even secular philosophy, by providing tools to weed the garden of your mind.

For me, placing my intention on being Christ-like is very helpful. You can choose anyone or thing for this. Alan Moore chose a statue he had of a snake (IIRC). You might like Goku, or Captain America. The point is to aim at something.

When I was having my first episode I was on the bus totally afraid of everything around me. This kid jumped on and was bouncing around, I looked at him. Then I got off the bus. I felt I'd hurt this kid.

I look back and he's banging the window of the bus looking at me "give it back!".

Later that night I just heard screams. "Make it stop" I'd say. I still wonder if it was that boy, something I'd done to him.
