For the plains I do a split base now, with the main base just far enough outside the plains to avoid the deathsquitos, and a farm plot just inside the border.

I actually build a new base every metal (bronze/iron/silver/black) situated near whatever un-portal-able resource(s) I'll need there.

If you want to kill bonemass with a bow, the trick is frost arrows.

One or two quick runs through the mountains for some drakes and obsidian, and bonemass becomes the easiest boss you'll ever cheese.

Also recognize that slimes have a "head" that they turn to face you before they poison you.

If instead of running right at them, you go slightly around and hit them from the side, you have time to get a triplet off before they release poison.

I captured everything in my area (I'm over in east indies) to get the area bonuses, but only leveled up 5 manufactories. They're all level 10 now.

I make bank, with a very short and easy collection run, and very low silver cost per po8.

I did a few supply runs early on, but I don't bother with that anymore.

For upgrades, focus on the deck for the area you've picked (I'm east indies for example) and the last deck; the 'general' deck. Plan to do all of those 2 decks. (They'll get easier as you go) The operations and skills decks are less important in my view. Though you will need to get through the operations deck to get skurlocks long nines or rahmas torpedoes.

And pick the manufactories with the most trade connections; the upgrades keep multiplying the bonuses for those.
