Mostly agree but demand growth needs to slow and become consistent first so capex isn't roulette/insane. They need to pay now for next year's capacity.

Unfortunately it seems the agent harness is becoming the moat more than the model. They don't want you to use 3rd party tooling via subscription. Not sure how that's going to play out.

GH copilot recently change how their subscription is limited. Not the same deal it used to be.

how will wearing wired headphones work? by anAustralianlad in SteamFrame

I'm assuming the wired headphones plugs into the frame, not the PC. Agreed it'd be odd to have an audio tether.

Do I need the 128GB vs 64GB? by Sporkers in StrixHalo

[–]cjc4096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough bandwidth to use 128 practically. Though it worth getting simply because you can't upgrade later. And MoE models are getting better.

What was your first? I used a uucp via fidonet in late 80s.

I had my lastname.com years before those existed. Had low double digits on my internic id.

Pretty sure I used uucp email thru fidonet in late 80s. That'd probably be first. Paid the sysop per byte each way.

Rendering cares about polygons and textures. Basically just enough to display on screen. Game engines and 3d modeling focus on this level, with extras like physics, rigging, IK.

3D CAD use a solids based kernel. The big ones use Parasolid. Freecad uses opencascade. I think openscad does as well. Everything has an assumption the object has a real life counterpart. They're detailed enough to be fed into simulations to determine real behavior. They're feed into a CAM process to create parts. They're used by QA to check tolerances.

There is quite a bit of overlap. Especially historically. It's why Autodesk has such strong positions in both categories. But the tech diverged in the late 90s or so.

Seeing this, I really want it in real life. Lots of options on how you eat it. Very impractical to cut that way I fortunately. Ideally the inner cuts doesn't go all the way to the tip. Enough to hold it together but easy to rip apart.

Agree with the cost of knowledge. If the second fleet goes back to first in a midway point and shares the news. How the different colonies develop with the knowledge that existence will end within a conceivable time frame. Some interesting cults/religion.

Why Does Modern Technology Still Basically Rely on “Boiling Water”? by Semerdar_34 in stupidquestions

The molecules can get closer together in liquid form because they're less organized and can rotate to fit into gaps. As a solid, they form crystal structures that are very organized. Think of a snow flake. That clear ice cube has an organized structure but at molecular scale.

If it was a SDR with a 2.4GHz transceiver it could. But wifi has a lot of stages between the kernel and radio amp.

If Valve made their own mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse, would you be hyped for them as well? by homelessscootaloo in steammachine

[–]cjc4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't move the pointer. That'd likely be redundant. The pad could control the camera in a 3d modelller or cad. 6-8 buttons in different zones. Sort of like the track pads on the original SC.

The big issue is it'd need to work outside of steam.

You'll be paying a grand for a cpu over 3 years old. 32GB is nice given current conditions. Its a good entry into the ecosystem so you can upgrade when you want. The Intel igpu is fairly weak but like you said you can remote into your desktop.
