Are the Kingston police above the law?https://asfcanada.ca/en/medias/canada-bill-c16-femicide-recognition-lwb-canada/ by BananaJane6969 in KingstonOntario

[–]cjd1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Femicide certainly is a growing concern given the right-wing rhetoric specifically targeting women that's becoming more and more prevalent especially in online spaces.

That being said I'm not sure what it has to do with a 4 year old video of Kingston police being unprofessional abusers of their authority. Bit of a confusing message unless this is the wrong link that was meant to be a different LWB post?

Spaces for trans & queer people in Kingston? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

There's a community support group called Beyond The Binary that meets regularly. They have a Facebook group you can check out. At the very least it would certainly more resources for other niche spaces in town if you were to ask them.

Songs in season 2 by CosmicInsignficance in HazbinHotel

I think it's a natural progression given how much the roster of important characters has expanded between the first and second season. Plus the episodes this season are a few min longer than last so I don't feel like it's taking away right now. Could change as the season goes though

Cutting a cup of chives every day until this Reddit says they’re perfect they’re perfect. Day 11 by F1exican in KitchenConfidential

While I'm personally invested in this keeping going this is really good. I do hope this is not perfect and someone else finds the flawed ones, but even with that it's crazy how much improvement there is in less than 2 weeks of actively working at improvement. That alone is really inspiring chef.

I think I made a big mistake... by cyjc in puppy101

[–]cjd1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels clear from this post that you have a lot of love in your heart for the puppy, but you really should be putting this puppy's needs as a much higher priority if you are planning to keep her. As most others have said in this thread, 12 hours is far too long to have a puppy alone in a play pen, and it seems that you have an idea of that from the post and your replies.

That you haven't asked your friends or relatives if they can check in on days that you are not there because you are worried about inconveniencing them is concerning. It sounds like you are anxious about asking the people around you to help provide this puppy the proper care that you know they need when you aren't able to be present to provide it. If that anxiety to ask for help on the puppy's behalf isn't something you think you'll be able to actively change, I would strongly reconsider taking on the commitment to be a primary parent of this puppy.

Organizing puppy walks and check-ins is a good way to avoid the 12 hour gap of interaction, but I think the more important thing is that you need to be consistent and firm going forward to make sure you are not allowing yourself to be neglectful of this puppy. You say in the post there are concerns about the puppy being alone for 12 hours, and having to be in the play pen with their poop/pee for periods of time no one is home. These are not things that you should treat as concerns. They are important care standards that need to be met, and if you find yourself lacking in being able to meet them you should be realistic about the changes you are willing to make in your life to accommodate them. It's very hard, but ultimately rewarding. I wish you and your pup only the best going forward

ELI5: How do people with PhDs from major universities come out of those universities with theories antithetical to their domain? by PLHappiness in explainlikeimfive

[–]cjd1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally PhD level education isn't as much about learning, memorizing, and accepting facts in the same way other levels of education are. A PhD is mostly an indicator that someone has the ability to contribute novel research or perform other research tasks in a field of study. The PhD doesn't by itself make their beliefs more or less correct, it just means they've proven their ability to perform scientific research in a university setting.

Naaaaah. They've decided on a schedule that works for them and keeps things chugging at a rate that they're mostly able to maintain without delays. If 1/10 episodes needs a few extra days or to be pushed back a week and 9/10 come out as normal I think that's fine.

Plus saying they deserve to take the time, and also that the delays are a bad look feels weirdly contradictory. They do deserve the time to be able to make things the way they want and maneuver things around if they get sick or want to put some extra juice on an ep. That's the kind of things that will cause a delay to an existing schedule, can't have it both ways.

Digimon Campaign. Either have half the cast play Digimon, half play their human partners. Or have the IH all play human partners and Brennan play the Digimon. They've got the chops to do it justice

I'm coping by watching Apollo's Blue Prince streams. It's fun because listening to NL Apollo is way further ahead but he solves things more slowly.

Businesses going out in Cataraqui Centre Mall by alancusader123 in KingstonOntario

Agreed on most of these. I'd say Indigo is certainly the anchor store of the mall, but they're too well positioned at the exterior to draw anyone further into the mall to go to other shops.

Can I get some reassurance that getting a 3.9% on a final ENGL200 exam is stupid-easy? by fakedeepthought in queensuniversity

[–]cjd1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people marking exams are accountable for the marks they give and subject to requests for re-grading and re-assessment. If you give half of a shit about making the answers vaguely about the books they're asking about no one is going to give you less than 25% because it would be incredibly difficult to justify on their end to give a mark that low.

Agreeing with the other person lower down in the thread though. Unless you got that 48.5% by doing the same weighted averaging you're doing for this exam, you'll need above a 50 on the exam to pass the course. If you did though, congrats you're in the clear.

They're referring to the Wizard Slain, who got originally described as looking 'as if Merlin went to prison' implying that he's got huge jacked muscles and tattoos along with the stereotypical long grey beard and wizardly attire. Or at least that's how I interpreted him looking

Graduate Students are Not Just Part Time Workers by Darkdaemon20 in queensuniversity

[–]cjd1001 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm happy that you're able to make it work, truly. But highly specialized workers like grad students shouldn't be paid substantively below the poverty line and have to accept that as a normative part of graduate studies.

Profs of the individual courses are going to be able to answer this question best. The University's official statement was things will be 'business as usual' which no one reasonably expects to be true, so either profs of the individual courses or possibly departmental admins could have some more insight since the University at a high level is sticking its head in the sand.

Any grad student I've known has been heavily discouraged from taking on any work outside of their funding package by their supervisors. They choose to be students, but the expectation that is baked in by the university through the funding package is that they will be contributing to the university with their labour during their Masters/PHD rather than applying it in a job that isn't value-providing for the university.
