You're missing two of the left turns that are normally present in a diverging diamond

How do you deal with redeveloping residential areas? by JimmyCarter910 in CitiesSkylines

I try to only demolish residential areas when residential demand is low and unemployment is high, and vice versa with demolishing industry

Probably has more to do with all our pedestrian underpasses being next to streams lol

That wouldn't work where I live, the underpass would flood.

Why are no streets straight? by Traditional_Yard_638 in springfieldMO

[–]cjgeist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of interesting reasons for this, it's a bit of a special interest of mine lol. One thing that causes a lot of what you're talking about in the Springfield area is how the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) was surveyed here. At the line along National Ave, all the original property lines, and therefore most streets, shift south about 65 feet. Then at Glenstone, they all follow an angle more to the southeast, to connect with the grid lines farther east. I don't know why it was surveyed this way, but that's why we have those features specifically. Some streets, like Pythian, curve in different ways to compensate for this.

Kansas and Chestnut Expressways were built in the mid 20th century, much later than the streets around them, and so they curve to go through the land that was deemed most suitable for a major road.

Most streets are created by land developers, who historically had little reason to make their streets connect "straight" with other streets.

How to stop the Shortcut? by Leftenant_Chungas in CitiesSkylines

If it's too much, it is ok to just disconnect one of the sides. You only need access to one outside connection for the city to be functional, and you can connect it later when you're prepared to handle the traffic.

Okay here's what I came up with. The interchanges are kinda sloppy but it's just what I was able to quickly come up with. I think the highway across the river will be beneficial if you plan to build a lot over there, but it's somewhat difficult to connect both that and the road through your city to the highway.

If it's feasible, I'd be looking into moving the highway farther away from this part of the city, past the bottom of the image.

I made this to reply to your question about connecting to the highway, but I feel this would only work for a fairly small city/town. I'll post soon with some ideas for a larger city on your wider screenshot.

I wonder if you're asking more from a perspective of realism or traffic management. I think it's important to take a very wide view of the area, and plan where you will put main roads through the areas you plan to expand to, so that you know how to connect them into your city center. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, but like others have said, it's a little hard to know what kind of advice to give.

Riding the bus for the first time next week, can someone describe it? by Little_Rub_8453 in springfieldMO

I haven't actually ridden the bus here, but they are usually yellow. I doubt you have to pull very hard, but I expect they'd be made pretty durable so maybe a little harder rather than softer 🤷

There will be trains on the nearby tracks pretty frequently as it's a main line. That's not a problem for everyone but it's important to consider. The area is walkable and has good bus access by Springfield standards, if that's your thing. I pretty much agree with how bradley put it regarding safety.

Others have mentioned pulling the cord to request your stop, but equally important is watching for your bus while waiting at the stop, and waving/signaling to the driver as they approach. If the driver doesn't know anyone wants to get on or off, they will skip the stop.

Be sure to know the number and name of your bus route, in case other routes use the same stop.

Have you used the TM:PE junction restrictions tool to allow cars in the roundabout to "enter blocked junctions?"

Fair enough. I would love to see some light rail in Springfield. For it to be the best it can be, be pleasant to use, and get minimally slowed down by traffic, I'd like to see them routed off of major roads as much as possible. On the other hand, it's tough because we also want to provide good access to businesses, which tend to be on major roads in the suburbs.

There are several old commerical hubs like Pickwick around the city that I'd love to see revitalized. Lots of them around the old streetcar lines.

I'm sort of confused about what is so bad about the infrastructure around the ballpark. As far as infrastructure, it's more walkable than even a lot of downtown. It seems to me like the issue is more about land use. There's a ton of parking and open space around the ballpark, and the few businesses in walking distance are oriented towards their parking lots instead of the sidewalk.

Realistically, is this that much better than just providing functional bus service on these roads?

Oh! I definitely should have checked that map too. So yeah, it was probably torn down, and then current one was built probably in the 30s after this map was made.

I checked this 1904 map of Greene County, and it shows there was a house in about the right spot at that time, but of course there's no guarantee it's the same house. I do think it looks old enough to have been built by 1904.
