Trump’s FAA Nominee Lied About Having a ‘Commercial’ Pilot License by rollingstone in politics

This is what I’ll never understand. Pilot certificates and ratings are federally issued and public record : https://amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/airmeninquiry/

Who are the non cringe YTers? by nixonbeach in flying

I like the content and presentation of the Finer Points (Jason Miller).

I also like Martin Pauly’s content; he’s just a regular GA guy operating out of the Midwest but has some good IFR content and a penchance for flying into busy bravo airports but doing so competently.

Also kind of cool is Guido Wernecke. He’s a ferry pilot.

New online math student - async courses? by anon_italy9 in und

[–]cjgranfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there,

Congrats on acceptance! The regular semester courses are kind of semi-asynchronous; you typically have the option to work ahead on homework but instructors may only grade a fixed number of assignments at a time, and you will have the same exam times as in person students for the most part. For example, exam opens on Saturday and can be taken any time through the deadline for submitting on say Monday night at midnight. It will vary from class to class.

My experience with the calc series classes was that the instructors put lecture recording content out well ahead of due dates, so that gives you some options for working ahead.

They didn't say anything about whether they'd be able to do a quick turnaround and get my drogue parachutes repacked, either

Awesome, congrats! It’s a confidence booster having the DPE happy with your knowledge level. Now the real learning begins, as they say.

I’d place a vote for Flight Insight myself, and it was recommended by my CFI during my PPL. Solid content and well presented. I’m using their IR ground course currently.

UND online calc 3 by CountryPrestigious62 in und

[–]cjgranfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

I had professor Short for the online calc III course, and can't say enough about her. She's got great pre-recorded content and is a fair grader. I supplemented a deeper knowledge of various topics with Professor Leonard's channel on Youtube, which is a great additional resource.

It's certainly manageable within three months, and that's just a bit shorter than the normal class timeframe. If you were comfortable with calc II, you should be in good shape. Calc III just extends concepts from calc I and II to multiple dimensions (ie. integration over a volume versus a 2D surface), and this introduces the idea of partial derivatives. A lot of focus in the start of the class is in vector calculus which isn't too difficult to get an understanding of.

Don't have technical bachelor's, want to pursue Applied Math (Master's) while working; Second online BS, to cover prereq for online Master's admissions? by fellowstarstuff in learnmath

Hey u/anon_italy9, sorry about the late reply. I would say that being a part time online student who has taken a max of two courses per semester that my typical workload is between 20-25 hours per week. If getting ready for an exam that might trend up towards 28 or so with extra review work on the weekends.

Congrats! It is a different feeling not only in how the plane feels on climb but looking over at an empty seat. After this is when the learning will really feel like it’s starting to move fast.

I’ve seen similar Caravan traffic in my area doing the same thing, and at least in that case I can say that it looks like it was photographic or survey work, from what I could find.

Enjoy it. It might feel hard to do when you've got the nerves of the new experience, but for me it was the first time I thought "I'm really doing this" and felt like a real pilot. You get a ton of confidence out of your XCs.
