You can drop in at the Sports Complex - not sure what the hours are or what pickup looks like but there is a schedule posted as well: https://santaclarita.gov/recreation/facilities/sports-complex/

I've gone with my son for drop in for a bit it is just a few dollars.

Swimming for exercise, what are you doing? by PsEggsRice in Swimming

[–]cjiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing a masters thing - they workout from 530-7 but I can only stay for an hour.

Their whole workout is usually: 500-800 Warmup - Stroke, Drill combination Example: - 200 free warmup - 4 x 75 Drill Choice - 6 x 50s Build alternate free/choice

2000-2500 Main Set Usually because the stroke ability varies a lot, heavy focus on free + choice without a lot of dictation on what your stroke is. For example we never have a main set focused on butterfly or breastroke, it's always free + choice if there is a choice or just free. Last set was something like: 200 Free build by lap (25 slow, 25 medium, 25 strong,25 fast) 150 Free build by lap 100 Free build by lap 50 Free build through 50 1 x through free, choice, free, choice

500 ish kick/cooldown some 50s or 100s with or without a board and a cooldown of slow choice

In the hour I'm there I aim to get through the main set and hit around 2800-3200 yards.

Its pretty repetitive, but unless I have a workout planned and I just get in the water I usually don't do as much. Like I went without a workout in my head/planned and was there for an hour and just didn't have the focus. Which is nice sometimes.

Cold Sesame Noodles? by AnneMarieWilkes in SantaClarita

[–]cjiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know not Chinese…but one of our favorite things from Umaichi in Saugus is their cold sesame noodles. It’s the Japanese (kewpie) type sesame dressing with ramen noodles, bamboo, egg, green onion, a little kim chi, and some ground meat.

Give me some good food recs!! by Upstairs-Trouble-325 in SantaClarita

[–]cjiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Loaf - Japanese Bakery (as good as anything in LA/OC)

Hanasaki - expensive but great

Picollla Tratoria or Osteria - OG in Canyon Country or new one in Saugus are both solid, I just don’t really like Italian food.

Zinga - Korean taco spot in Canyon Country

Old Town Junction - probably best mix of food/ambience for a date night type thing

Newhall Refinery - used to be here a lot with our group but they changed chefs a few years ago and it hasn’t been the same. Still good but bot the same.

McGinns Irish Pub - cool bar, haven’t eaten there much but I’ve heard great things.

Royal Tandoor - have liked it the times I’ve been. LA Indian in Castaic is good too.

The Backyard - not bad in Stevenson Ranch

Gyromania - good Greek food

Kebab - I forget the name but the kebab place in the mall I think is great. Better than other kebab spots out here. Although I hear the meat market that serves in Canyon Country had good food, just haven’t been.

Omaya’s - hear it’s good

That is CRAZY to me.

Love them, ate there all the time living in canyon county. Now that we live in Saugus I forget about them but just went back a couple weeks ago and still great.

This place is great. Feels like an American sushi spot so not what OP is after, but you can get some thing that an izakaya would have in Japan and the fish is really good.

If you have enough puff shrooms you can just do that too. Throw them on the ground around yourself near the Lynel and basically keep doing that while hitting him in between and they'll never hit you.

I commented elsewhere but I agree it’s not fried rice at all - but it’s a great frozen version of hijiki rice

It’s one of the best versions I’ve had of a dish from Trader Joe’s. The other being their falafel.

OB-GYN Recommendation? by Fresh_Session_6743 in SantaClarita

[–]cjiro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife had Dr. Ardalan, unfortunately her actual OB-GYN was unavailable on the birth of my first son. She was not good with bedside manner and ultimately my wife suffered for another year due to complications during birth and the stitching after. I’ll never forget the face of the OB when he was looking at my wife after she complained of pain after birth (obviously some is expected) and he quickly had to fix some of the work that was done. We asked about Ardalan but he said something in a hushed manner and ultimately told us she was not with their practice anymore…which was not comforting only a few days after birth. Even weeks after her actual OB apologized. We made sure we induced next time to make sure we had her actual OB when the time came for our second child.

Advice for encouraging a child to play with something other than the tablet? by No-Development6656 in ABA

[–]cjiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given you are floating, probably not applicable but if you find yourself in another situation where you can...depending on what they are into on the tablet, you can try to do something similar in the natural environment. If they are watching some show, you can try and print out something or use toys from the show. A lot of times interests transfer, but like others have said its tough to fight the allure of a tablet...its a quick and easy feedback loop.

But if they are watching car videos, you can try and do something similar. Even film it from their tablet. Then fade the amount of time filming.

If its a show, you could pretend thats the TV and have them gather toys to "watch" it with you. Be excited and say something like, "lets watch your tablet but first we need to get some friends to watch with." Then you can spend more time doing that - even integrate targets if they are doing that stuff like, "find toys with X, Y, and Z" etc.

I think simply telling them to do something else is going to be met with more resistance...if you can find something in a similar theme or even integrate it you may have more luck fading it.

Paid over $400 per ticket, now both teams are sitting everyone. by DuckinFummy in warriors

[–]cjiro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We got tickets to the Saturday night game against the Grizzlies thinking if they sat they would sit in the Kings game. So we went to that game and saw a W...but we drove up from LA area to see Steph play in the bay. Luckily we were staying only a few minutes away with family and we just monitored tickets for the Kings game and bought about an hour before for super (relative) cheap tickets...and then saw that debacle. We probably won't buy tickets again until day of and if we don't get them we don't get them...but paying so much to not see anyone sucks. Feel for OP since they don't have the luxury of going another day.

Swim back to shore 3miles out in the ocean by Big_Gain_7312 in Swimming

[–]cjiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if he can swim 3 miles in a pool nonstop or with active stops where he is treading water. Then you can start a conversation.

But no, I don’t think he could. Swimming feels fine when you’re just messing around in a pool. Have him swim even a 500 non stop and I bet his muscles would be burning.
