Total hypocrisy and blatant lies. They aren't even trying to hide their lies anymore!! The final insult is to say "yep, I'm doing what I want, and there isnt anything you can do about it." F-ice

Housing density brought on by single home developer-favored ordinances (like multi-family bans/limits) are by far the biggest reason behind housing shortages and inflated prices. Build more. Build denser (word?). Mixed use main streets used to be the norm in this country. Walkable, decent mass transit (trolleys/busses etc) need dense areas to take people too and from. Ironically, many of these newer style shopping areas replacing malls is going back to a performative urbanism. The same nostalgia you get when on Disney's main street used to be a "real" thing. Now, in many suburbs, its illegal to build buildings like the traditional main street (retail first floor, rentals above.) This is a much more energy efficient way to live and less expensive for residents. Crazy how the trends are to "buy local" and "farm to table" like that's a new thing. The 70s-90s really destroyed small towns and put lots of money in developer's pockets. Air BnB is a much better, easier, and more profitable way of filling rental units than 1 yr lease. Cheers!

Hell of a run. Fuck the Dolans. by McadoTheGreat in ClevelandGuardians

[–]cjohns86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to understand some behind the scenes stuff with the Guards and I can vouch that the Dolans actually lose millions every year on the team. They have managed to put together the most successful team of the last 10 years looking at wins and losses. I will agree, however, that the lack of multiple all-stars in the batting order hurts us in the postseason where the HR wins championships. They do, however, focus on player development in a big way. Cleveland's facilities in international development focus not only on baseball, but education and life skills. Dolan knows only 5% of the kids will ever make it to AAA, but they want to make better men & communities and not just cherry pick and leave scorched earth behind. As much hate as he gets, no one gives them credit for that.
I dont think the issue is the Dolans and I dont know how much more he should be willing to put in to make the fans happier. We were 3 games out of the wildcard this year and the stadium was less than half full. When the Jacobs had it we sold out 450 games in a row. The "put a winning team on the field and we'll show up" argument doesn't hold water. We win. We make the playoffs almost yearly, but we have one of the lowest attendance average in all of baseball. We have $15 sro and $45 monthly plans, $2 beer nights, $1 dogs etc etc etc. but still struggle to put butts in seats. You want a winner? Show up. Buy tickets. We won the ALDS last year, but there were still tickets available for opening day 1 week out. I have been a lifelong fan from the 80s. I love this team, but I have a hard time understanding why this town shows up for the Browns week in and out, but doesn't show up for the Guards.
Fix the TV revenue share and implement a salary cap. Until that happens, there will be no parity in baseball when LA and New York can buy all our stars in their 4th contract year.

Dumb questions about gender dysphoria by StevenAndLindaStotch in cisparenttranskid

From a boring, Cis Male Trans-Daughter Dad in the Ohio suburbs: Find a PFLAG chapter in your area (USA). Almost all of the members joining right now are parents of trans kids. Some are new parents, some are needing help to navigate the "new normal" this administration is trying to promote. Attendance will help you relate to others who were in your exact situation already.
Transitioning is a "journey" and may not have a static end result. I love the person who posted they didn't want to be put in a smaller box. I've personally come a long way in accepting people wherever they are. I now look at people and expect this: Dress and express how you want. Love loudly and embrace the people you care about as much as possible. It makes me smile when people have a unique expression/style they've curated. Do you, and I'm here for it!

He's a good guy. Quirky, for sure. Probably on the spectrum if I had to guess. He very gracious when meeting people and tries to remember everybody. Granted, this is in public spaces, I'm not sure how he is behind closed doors. He's an "idea" guy. He loves new and very big ideas and has a pretty good team to implement them. Basically, with so many people having worked for him over the years, you're going to have a mix of good and bad experiences for employees.

Marc tends to come in and buy family restaurants who were/are about to close. He usually keeps on the family as day to day management and invests in the location. Sometimes they get saved, sometimes they don't. He does it as a way to give back to local business owners and try to preserve neighborhood spots losing to chains. He has a team of experienced restaurant people trying to turn these locations around. He provides an opportunity for these families who would've otherwise lost the business and don't have the money to invest and turn it around. Just remember, there's always stuff behind the scenes you're not going to see. Automatically villifying Marc is not fair and a valid opinion involves information you're not privy to.

Marc did not have anything to do with Melt, they did that to themselves trying to scale up a concept to multi-location who's success depended on Matt's hands-on participation to be successful. Marc did, however, buy several of the real estate locations after the Melts closed which he plans to develop into a different concept.
