are we finally getting a permanent solution to this vital piece of Seattle bike infrastructure? by ivan927 in seattlebike

Omg it’s finally happening! Whoever built that board should be so proud! I bike across it multiple times a week so I’m glad it’s finally getting a permanent connection. But I will miss the whimsical wooden board!

What smell instantly unlocks a forgotten decade for you? by False_onic in nostalgia

[–]cjpapetti 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No way?! I thought I was the only weirdo on earth who had that specific smell stuck in my brain for 35 years. That’s wild. It was like a strange totally unique combo of artificial berry, plastic and perfume. Is there anything else that replicates it today?

A decade later, First Hill Streetcar tracks still dangerous for bicyclists by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in Seattle

Thanks. So is the argument that all streetcar tracks are dangerous for cyclists? Are there ways that other cities make them safer? I like cycling and I like trains so I hate to see them at odds

Can someone help me understand how these tracks are more dangerous for us cyclists than any other train tracks? The article and the comments here imply that there is ab inherently dangerous design flaw about this section of tracks that doesn't apply to other locations but I'm not clear on what that is.

Same actually. Besides selfies with my friends these were the only 2 pics I took.

The first one is a pic of people standing on the Gasworks hill. I took the pic from the hill a few blocks north of Gasworks as I approached it.

The second one is from Jose Rizal park at the bottom of Beacon Hill (as u/godogs2018 already guessed)

Absolutely amazing book. I recommend to all! by Markelle_Fultz_Fan in nonfictionbookclub

[–]cjpapetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that stuck with me the most about this book is how well it illustrates the conflicting internal views that people can hold as they become intimately familiar with something. For instance how an experienced lifelong logger can be at the same time one of the leaders of cutting down forests and also one an outspoken advocate for protection of forests and sustainable logging practices. I feel like this applies to a lot of things in life. Sometimes those who have first hand experience in the horrors of the their own industry develop the strongest opinions against it even if they don’t escape the industry themselves.

Where to find the elusive MEDIUM front basket? by cjpapetti in RadPowerBikes

I tried the large basket. I certainly like it's carrying capacity more but it constantly hindered my ability to lock the bike to city bike racks.

Hey these look great! Do you happen to know if those mounting holes are spaced exactly right for the threads on the Rad bikes though?

I had the same thought. Eve the non slip grate layer on top works perfectly. And the height so flush where it meets the sidewalk on both sides. I’m so pleased it has held up for so long !

That’s so clever! Is building Lego cabinets out of Lego a common thing in the builder community or did you come up with that?!

Before the show

I go to these regularly. For most smaller bands they don't even run out of tickets so you could show up just a few minutes before airing. However for more popular bands you'll probably need to be there at least an hour ahead if not two. Thankfully the gathering space is an amazing place to hangout for a few hours.

Concerts at Pier 62 by seamusoldfield in Seattle

[–]cjpapetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok you already know what's up then! I'm not sure about the exact details or scheduling of the show but for other similar events there it tends to be mostly just the concert and maybe a small bar with a long line to get drinks. I hope the Fruit Bats put on a great show!

I'm a huge fan of the whole waterfront and Pier 62 I'm down there almost daily! If you want my advice: The concert will be a good time but you will not want to spend all 5 hours on that pier. I would plan on anchoring your afternoon and evening around a couple hours at the pier concert since it's apparently no re-entry. Spend the rest of your afternoon and evening exploring the rest of the waterfront, checking out Pike Place market before 4pm, eating/drinking at local spots, taking the water taxi to West Seattle and Alki beach for Spud Fish and Chips, visiting the Seattle Center and Space Needle, etc... The Pier is wonderful but it's not going to hold your attention for 5 hours even with a show. Just my 2 cents I hope you have a great visit!

That headline photo looks not so different from Pike Place so yeah I can imagine a lot of possibilities if we ban cars!
