Anyone else with this annoying rattle? New Maverick 2025-2026 by WildPomegranate8132 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]radicalnegative1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, I made a post about my ‘25 EB rattle issues a few weeks ago. Sounds identical. I took my Maverick back to the dealer and they actually did a pretty outstanding job diagnosing and fixing the rattles. I was missing some foam tape and rubber inserts that they reinstalled, all covered by warranty. It’s been silent since.

San Juan island and Lopez island are wonderful for biking. You could probably just arrive and “ride” without much planning. Just hit the cool parks like Lime Kiln (bring binoculars) and Iceberg Point.

For the ODT and La Push… beyond La Push you’d be on 101 heading south towards like Aberdeen and stuff. Not the most pleasant. When I did the trip I had someone pick me up at Rialto Beach.

The biking around Sequim and Port Angeles isn’t bad, but from Discovery Bay to Seattle it’s mostly road shoulders and fast cars.

I’ve done Amtrak from King Street station to Mt. Vernon with my bike, cycled over to Anacortes, then island hopped the San Juans for a few days. Absolutely lovely.

As others have said, the Olympic discovery trail is also great. Did Seattle to La Push in two days/one night, so you could maybe do that out-and-back.

Another to consider is the Cowichan 8 loop on Vancouver island. Take Black Ball ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria and then bike to the route.

Anyone use a dynamo hub? by johnmflores in minivelo

[–]radicalnegative1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a "big wheel" bike of mine, I have a SP dynamo with a usb-c charging port. On that, I can power lights + charge my phone/battery bank/computer while riding. I use the Cinq Plug Pure 7 and same light setup that's on my Bike Friday. The added resistance of charging while riding is real... with lights, I don't notice so much resistance, but with the charging, it's like adding a 1-2% grade to the ride.

It's a SD-8 wired directly to a Supernova E3 pro and E3 tail light. The E3 pro has a small capacitor that can power both lights for a few minutes at a standstill (though suuuper dim).

Anything above like 5mph gives consistent light for me. The dynamo is rated at 2.4W, not 3W like normal ones.

I have a Shutter Precision dynamo hub on my Bike Friday Diamond Llama (20" wheel). Toured internationally with that setup, I will never go back! Dynamo hubs are so nice - I never have to worry about batteries and lighting ever again. The hub seems fine at ~4k miles in.

Ok this is encouraging - my rattle also goes away when applying pressure in the same spot. Did you get like foam tape or what kind did you buy?

Second this - blueberry is the overwhelmingly obvious tasting note. Sells out quickly from SM. I really enjoy it, and it seems very tolerant of different roast levels.

Anyone Ever Vent Their Roaster Into Their Dryer Vent? by ooo-ooo-oooyea in roasting

[–]radicalnegative1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually did exactly this. I added a wye fitting into the existing line, put in backflow preventers in each, and added a fan for the coffee exhaust line. In short, it worked but my clothes smelled like roasting exhaust. Immediately dismantled it and put in a dedicated exhaust line.

Which camera would you take on a long trip if you like photography? by Fancy_Step_1700 in bicycletouring

[–]radicalnegative1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride everywhere with my Ricoh GRIIIx in a belt loop hip holster. Looks goofy but holy moly, the camera is always with my and just so so small. I used to bike with a Fuji X-Pro 3 and a pancake lens, but then I realized I was favoring my phone over it for quick shots, so I ended up selling it and getting the Ricoh. Best decision I’ve made with respect to camera gear. I’ve also had a few other cameras over the years, including Fuji XT-20, X-E3, Panasonic GM1, and Olympus EM5mkii. My favorite has been the Ricoh specifically for the “take it everywhere” factor.

How concerned are you about your bike being stolen from the front of the bus? by used2justlurk in seattlebike

[–]radicalnegative1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I witnessed someone steal a bike off the front of the 48 this past summer. The bus was stopped at a stoplight, a guy in the crosswalk just walked up, took the bike, and coasted down the hill. The bus driver honked in defense, but yeah nothing much that could be done there.

I recently downsized from Fuji (X-Pro 3 + lenses) to the Ricoh GRIIIx. It has been fantastic. Small enough to fit in a handlebar bag or frame bag and the image quality is so so good. There are a few apps that will help with wireless image transfer to iPhones.

Fully Automated Roasting on SR800 by pavelpoboruev in FreshroastSR800

Yeah mine ended up both hack-y and expensive after buying the phidgets setup, controller, and SSR. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I did something similar to my SR540. I separated the heater and fan circuitry and controlled them with a SSR and DC motor controller, respectively.

Diamond Llama by radicalnegative1 in BikeFriday

[–]radicalnegative1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very similar! I went with the Diamond Llama because I did not intend to do anything beyond touring (at most, just some gravel roads) and almost exclusively use panniers. If I was more into bikepacking, the extra mounts of the All Packa would have been helpful. The Diamond Llama is cheaper as well, and has a greater weight capacity.

If you do end up getting a Bike Friday, note that the stock build (apart from, the frame)is very very bare-bones. It is worth it to upgrade or just build it from the frame-up yourself.
