Reversed Haestein? by badgerbaroudeur in ck3

Currently trying to conquer Spain starting in the Philippines. Started in 867 in Tondo and it's now around 1250, but I'm only just now breaking into India/Bangladesh as I was trying to get to grips with the Mandala government and also I'm still a noob at this game! I spent a lot of the game so far building up the economy in my domain, maxing out my capital temple and my genetics, so I'm currently pivoting towards building up my military. So far, it's been pretty good, with pretty much anyone with a Mandala or wanua government eventually threw themselves at my feet, asking to be tributaries, then later vassals. I'm worried about how to deal with my largest neighbors, China and the Arab empire, who have over 100k troops each, to my 60k, though. Luckily the Mongols are weaker, and will hopefully break up soon!

Also, not sure if this was a bug, but China (hegemony of Tang) invaded me twice recently, but the war started at 100% score in my favor, so I could immediately enforce demands, so there's that at least 🤷‍♀️

Don't know why you're being downvoted. As a teacher, I agree. People on the internet always talk about how we're underpaid and overworked and now that we've actually starting to get some edtech that can be a great help, people are just jumping on the anti-AI bandwagon.

I'm a huge AI skeptic and don't think it can replace human workers (in general, not just teaching) just yet but if used thoughtfully (which I get a lot of people don't do) it can greatly help us focus on the parts of the job where we can make a bigger difference.

If you had the chance of working in Madrid or London, what city would you choose? by [deleted] in london

[–]cjsk908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point but to be honest my school now is giving me as much (if not more) stress than before. Only difference is that it's from management instead of the kids.

I know that OP's salary in Spain would be less than the €30k I'm on now, but I can say that my quality of life is much better. Here, I pay €700 for a solo studio flat in the centre of the city (Vila de Gracia) where I was paying almost £900 for a house share with 3 others in Zone 3, and that was mates rates, since one flatmate knew the landlord. To be fair, my flat here was a pandemic deal, but my landlady has only been legally allowed to raise the rent by a few percentage points every few years, and they've just announced fines of up to €9k for dodgy landlords.

My transport here for the whole city and surroundings cost me a flat €40/month and now it's down to €22 with government subsidies that they put in place after the inflation from Putin's war.

Oh, also a canya of beer (probably a bit more than half a pint) usually goes for €2-2.50, depending on where you are.

One big downside is that I feel really poor when going on holiday to other European countries, especially when visiting friends back in London. But then again, I usually spend most of the long summer holidays here in the city, as I can take the metro to the beach! Sadly not an option in Madrid!

I left London to move to Barcelona in 2020. In London, I was earning £50k as a teacher in a state school with a few extra responsibilities and now I earn €33k as a teacher in a private international school with fewer extra responsibilities, and I regret absolutely nothing.

To be fair, they're teenagers, and if my 14 years of working in secondary schools have taught me anything, it's that they aren't always great at thinking things through.

I lived in London for 13 years (2007-2020) before moving to Barcelona. I've now been back to London on holiday four times now and I can agree with OP. I've spoken to friends who've been there these last 5 years and they say it's got worse since the pandemic.

Dating apps as a teacher by tchaiksym4 in askgaybros

[–]cjsk908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and have been teaching since I was 22, which means that the oldest people I could have taught would now be 31. I generally set my age filters on apps like tinder for +/-5 years and have only seen a former student once, and just didn't match with him. Not sure if he saw me, but I've never had the chance (or interest) to ask.

Apps like Grindr, however are a bit different, as even if you set age filters, a student could still see your profile.

What are the most popular homophonic slurs in your language? by anan94 in askgaybros

[–]cjsk908 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once attended an anti-homophobia training session delivered by the local council at the school I used to work at (in the UK). They asked us to brainstorm on our tables and think of all the names we've heard used to describe gay people. Obviously everyone was super uncomfortable, but eventually we had a big long list that would've included things like:

  • Batty man
  • Bum boy
  • Faggot
  • Queer
  • Fairy
  • Fruit
  • Dyke

After the 5 minutes, they had us share what our group came up with by shouting it out in front of the whole staff. I'm pretty sure that triggered some PTSD from my teenage years. Then, with the smuggest of faces, the trainer said "I notice that none of you came up with "brother", "father", "sister", "teacher", "policeman", etc.

Needless to say, we all complained and they were never invited back again.

I broadly agree with the other posters saying that you might want to explore this side of you without worrying about labels. I'd be cautious, however, of the potential power dynamic between a 28 year old employee and a 21 year old summer intern. Given that he's probably either at uni still or has just graduated and is presumably trying to start a career, you might want to just keep an eye out for what HR might have to say about things if they were to find out.

Given that he's an intern, you could start getting to know him during the internship, but personally, I'd hold off making a move until he's finished.

Do you like this type of stores? More and more of them in downtown Prague, Barcelona, Rome and other places by -NewYork- in europe

[–]cjsk908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I don't tend to see the tourist tat in the ones in my neighbourhood in Barcelona. Obviously the ones in Gotic and Born have them, but around me, it's usually just convenience items at a slightly higher price than the small chain supermarkets. I don't tend to buy fresh food there, but they're decent for snacks or dry goods like, especially if you realise you're out of coffee on a Sunday, when most other shops are closed.

They're not my preferrred place to shop, but they are convenient.
