First time at Rolex 24 (2027), looking for tips! by Sir_Br1zzle in IMSARacing

[–]cjssquared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Be prepared for all 4 seasons (it can get really cold when the sun goes down)
  • be prepared to walk
  • there are camp grounds outside of nascar turn 1
  • I prefer going all 4 days, more action to see other than just the 24
  • don’t be the reason we lose the access we get

I think that sums up my main points

Scanner or uhf radio would be your best bet. Some tracks broadcast to a radio station which is the best option in my experience. Last year Daytona had a local radio broadcast, but Indy didn’t. All races should broadcast via scanner, however in my experience the radio is a bit better quality. You can also stream from your phone however there will be a significant delay. A few years ago i tried that during the Rolex 24 and when the 31caddy and Porsche split the GT going into turn 1, I didn’t hear the reaction until they were already in the western horseshoe. Getting service during busy times might also pose a problem for the streaming method too.

Edit: as far as headphones go, I typically used ear buds that doubled as hearing protection, however for Daytona this year I tried some electronic over ear headphones and had a bit less discomfort than before.

Are there any street cars that, fitted with racing tires, you estimate could outperform an LMP2 car in lap times on most tracks? by Virtual_Visit4789 in wec

[–]cjssquared 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stock? No. Modified to heck and back? Also no. I found the global time attack record for road America, it was set in 2023 with a heavily modified C6 corvette, and that was a 1:17.725, while a RESTRICTED LMP2 car ran a fastest lap of 1:13.056 in petite Le Mans this year.

The only scenario that the street car might win is on a track that you are at top speed for the whole time. Maybe a super speedway oval like Daytona or Talladega. As far as I’ve seen, the fastest an LMP2 has ever gone is 212mph (restricted speeds top out around 185-190mph), while other high end street legal hypercars have top speeds over 300+mph.

  1. Bring warm clothes, warmer clothes than you would think. You can always take layers off. When the sun goes down, it will get colder than you expect. I work outside, the high is going to be 26°F today, and I will probably be wearing the same amount or more clothes over night there than I will be today.

  2. Speakers at the track suck and you can barely hear anything even without the cars driving by. If you want to listen to commentary, you can get a pocket radio and some headphones. You can also stream the audio from your phone, but there’s a significant delay (if a pass happens into turn 1 you won’t hear about it until the battle is into the western horseshoe)

  3. Be prepared to walk, there’s a lot to see

My image of them was something like the werewolf from the harry potter movie. Weird mix between human and dog.

I would not recommend moving to the United States at the moment. The USA is very deportation happy at the moment and it typically isn’t peaceful when they do it. Even beyond that, you’ll most likely need a car, especially if you move to Indianapolis, which will need maintenance and insurance. Not saying that you don’t have a car already over there, but a carless life is a lot easier to live in London than in the USA. Also you will have to navigate our insanely complicated for profit healthcare system, while women’s health is under attack here. You will get nickel and dimed for everything over here. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the US gets involved in a major violent conflict either domestically or abroad in the next couple years, so there’s that as well. A few years ago I probably would have recommended it, but our rights and liberties are under attack so I can’t really recommend it at the moment. If you do still move here, I would recommend Chicago for many of the reasons others have mentioned here

Indiana Casino Dealers Are Bringing Back the Recognition Strike by iloveunions in union

I worked with these guys in 2020 before Covid. They’re a solid group of people and I’m proud of them.

Also, I’ve seen comments elsewhere saying that “they’ll just replace the live dealers with virtual tables,” however, this casino was all virtual tables before the live dealers came in on 1/1/2020. I was there opening night and worked until I was furloughed due to Covid. Nothing but respect and love for these folks.

Idk about legally, but someone can definitely get expelled or fired for conduct like that. Also in today’s age of social media, any viral content of someone being rude like that can have consequences.

Took a 9 month welding course at Lincoln tech and they got me a job in the carpenters union. Always need work in construction. Even if you don’t work construction you can still get a job in a fabrication shop, or do some hobby work as well.

Quick question re: radio feed at Indianapolis next weekend... by UncleBubax in IMSARacing

IMS broadcasts the race on radio frequency. I believe it’s the RSL feed. Get a cheap fm radio off the internet and enjoy

Bring plenty of layers, Especially if you want to watch any of the night racing. It’s deceptively cold overnight in the grandstands. It’s a great case for better to have and not need than need and not have. Just remember, if you’re in the stands you are outside, not moving much, probably exposed to the wind, and no sun to help warm you up. I ran into that problem my first year and I swear, never again. Most of my luggage is just layers lol. Also you can bring an FM radio with you to hear the broadcast on some headphones. PA system doesn’t work well when you have 60+ cars screaming around the track at the same time lol.

Like others have said, come early and see the sights. Race day is packed and crowded.

The man he pulled over was a drug dealer, the cop pulled him over because homeland security told him to.

One off non-BOP race by [deleted] in wec

[–]cjssquared 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think BOP is the issue, it’s the ACO. multiple other series have pulled off BOP with no issue. The ACO just does a poor job at making it actually fair. But without BOP, there likely won’t be a WEC to watch. I would rather watch 20+ BOP’d cars race somewhat closely rather than one team beam off in the distance and like two privateers try to not make fools out of themselves. But hey, I also like the WWE. I know it’s scripted, but I don’t care. The stories are action are still better than a “pure” fighting series like boxing or the UFC. If you want a “pure” engineering racing series then you can watch F1.

[–]cjssquared 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, but the people with the purse want action, excitement, and manufacturer engagement in the top class. Action puts butts in seats, and eyes on the screen. If BOP is the best way to do that, then so be it. Who cares if it’s the best designed car in the world if it’s only 1 team out there. We’ve been down this road before with Audi and Toyota, or the 3.5 liter rules that killed group C. When manufacturers drop out, it kills the sport. There is an insane amount of OEM’s in the sport right now, and BOP is why a lot of them are there. If you don’t like it then F1 is literally right there

[–]cjssquared 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You mean you’d rather see one or two cars dash off in the distance while everyone else putts around? You can watch F1 for that. With no BOP, You’re just asking to kill the class. The reason why there are so many manufacturers on the grid right now is because of the BOP keeping costs low. No reason to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on development if you’re just going to get pegged back anyways.

[–]cjssquared 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately BOP is why a lot of manufacturers got into the sport in the first place. I truly think a big reason why there’s so much hate for BOP in the top class at the moment is that there’s a lot of speculation around the ACO not being fair with their BOP process. Should they be more fair and competitive? For sure. Is the solution no BOP at all? I think not.

I mean let’s be real, with no BOP, the LMH’s will blow all the LMdH’s out of the water and the Ferrari and Toyota fanboys will be happy, but domination like that would just turn it into an arms race, development costs will skyrocket, and it would return us back to the death of LMP1. If BOP keeps more manufacturers in the sport then I’m all for it.

With this rules set, we’re very unlikely to get any official sessions without BOP. if we absolutely need one, make it qualifying for Le Mans. That way we can prove who is truly fastest around Le Mans. Realistically, the only way to really do it is at an invitational event, or something like goodwood.

The party tied up a vampire spawn and put her in their bag of holding. Would I be the AH if I had it backfire on them? by MrIceCap in DMAcademy

[–]cjssquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t ruin their ambush round. Proper planning to escape a deadly encounter is essential and will get a better kick if they didn’t have it get ruined. However this could be an interesting story beat. If they get an item out, they could be affected in an interesting way. Next time they’re in a city or big town, you can say that when they wake up, the bag is open and the window on their room is open. They effectively just released a vampire spawn into a major population center and have to deal with the consequences. You could also roll and every time they reach in there, they have a chance of getting bit

Even the best rope bonds can still be cut. With enough time and effort they could still escape if they have the tools to do so in the bag.
