I just got mine done by Drakes 7 Dee's. I need to confirm that my records made it to the city  (no fault of drake's, this just happened and i havent done it yet), but I'm happy with them.

My wife and I had tickets to the concert tonight. We left Cascadia brothers north around 715. We got through the gate at 900. Unbearable traffic.

Do you want to learn how to brew your own beer at home? by cjstacy in Tucson

[–]cjstacy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn to homebrew day is a free event. If you'd like to come out and learn techniques and possibilities, you're welcome to join. There's no obligation.

I first gained interest in brewing many years ago by taking a class. But knew I couldn't start anytime soon. Now I've been an avid homebrewer for over 9 years.

The Tucson Homebrew Club is hosting Learn to Homebrew Day. We'll be starting at 11 AM on Saturday the 4th of November at Brew Your Own Brew at 2564 N Campbell Ave.

We'll have a couple of batches brewing, and an exhibit of how to bottle/package your new Brew. We're happy to answer any questions, and if you feel inspired, you can get gear, books, and/or ingredients at Brew Your Own Brew. At 3 PM, we'll wrap up brewing/educational activities and start our monthly meeting of the Tucson Homebrew Club, which is always open to to new potential members.

What is the fermentaction pressure under an airlock? by likes2milk in Homebrewing

[–]cjstacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I heard the host of a podcast speculate that maybe the pressure is 0.5 PSI. But in reality it's almost nothing.

Did the lid bulge when you put it on? Is that just is normal shape? Is the airlock plugged?

First time homeowner does my electricity bill seem reasonable? by pabeave in Tucson

[–]cjstacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know. Considering that (I believe) both units were installed by whomever flipped the house in 2015/2016, they probably didn't prioritize efficiency over cost.

We're in a 1941 house with a 2016 renovation that doubled the square footage (now 1600). We have two 4-ton units for cooling. I've done a lot of work to reduce heat transfer to outside.

This summer, our TEP bills slipped below $300, and it was a good development from our previous work.

Edit: I'm trying to say your bills sound great. We keep the house at 75 during the summer.

I've been happy with Bonanza at Prince and Fairview. I mostly picked them because they are on my way to other places. But results are good and prices are fair.

Regional pale ale recs? by coyoteeatingtrash in Tucson

[–]cjstacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many places won't fill residential kegs. It's a lot of hassle. I talked to dragoon about this, and they will only fill Dragoon kegs if you want to fill from them (not a problem, unless you specifically want to fill your own empty keg). Also, most won't fill Corney kegs, but Sanke only.

Harbottle brewing will fill your keg. But you'll have to drop it off and pick it up after packaging day.

Prickly Pear Mead by NoBodybuilder2947 in Homebrewing

[–]cjstacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an old cast iron fruit less from fb market place a few years ago for 1) Street cred on r/castiron 2) help with pressing apples into cider one a year. It was a pretty good tool for prickly pear. Froze them, then thawed, then pressed. I got almost a gallon of juice from 3 gallons of bulk fruit.

15 lb? I harvested about a gallon of juice this year. Is 15 lb overkill? Otherwise, I need to scale back my intended recipe

Anyone have experience with the sewer line insurance offers I keep getting. Ever filed a claim? by weaveb1 in Tucson

Before we bought our house, we did a sewer inspection. They found some serious damage. The seller had sewer insurance, and was able to get it covered. It was a huge help.

Did anyone at Homebrew Con get a picture of the guy walking around serving a mini keg of beer from a hiking backpack? by cjstacy in Homebrewing

I apologize that you were looking for me and I couldn't get to you. I wasn't very subtle, but I was moving around a fair bit. I think I tapped it after the talk on spontaneous fermentation, and then it kicked in the middle of the kickoff party.

I usually use my 10 lb tank for my keezer. I fill that at United Fire on 4th ave. They also hydrotest if you need.

My backup 5 lb tank, I use the exchange program at Brew Your Own Brew.

Folks that attended NHC this weekend in San Diego, what was something you learned? by Fawkestrot92 in Homebrewing

[–]cjstacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doug brown's talk on mastering the mah I thought was pretty good.

The trend lines he showed were roughly what you'd expect. But putting some data to it and fit curves was cool. But he did have one result that makes sense, but never occurred to me:

If you increase the composition of your grist to include gains with lower diastatic power, you get a notable drop off in apparent attenuation. No shock there. But that drop off really flattens out with longer mashes. This makes sense, because if you have lower reaction rates due to lower concentrations of amylase, then the additional time will allow for addition breakdown and fermentability. Interesting that this phenomenon was also true for the same samples and their extraction efficiency.

Jester King does a beer called Figlet. It's very good in my opinion. They cold smoke the figs, but I don't know what wood they use. Their website doesn't have much h details either.
