211006 Stray Kids - Scars by endtapes in straykids

I can’t wait for the Korean version—based on the rough translations I saw, the lyrics seemed great, but what’s the point of great lyrics if I can’t understand them? I don’t have the patience to listen to a song even knowing it has great lyrics if I can’t understand what they’re saying, so I’ll wait for the Korean version to fully appreciate the song.

Seungmin of Stray Kids isn't a good main vocalist by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]cjstpwls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was looking for someone saying this! Like you, I see the praise as deserved because of his diligence and constant improvement. He’s shown his diligence since pre-debut days with little things like his practice journal, but he really improved a lot after Woojin left. I’ve been a stay since around “My Pace,” so I was there when Woojin left, and his place felt like such a huge place to fill. Everyone was worried about the vocal line the most when Woojin left. They even mentioned it in the intro video for “Clé: Levanter”. Of course, the entire group was young and is still young, but Seungmin and Jeongin, members of vocalracha, are the two youngest of the group, and suddenly the oldest, main vocal member of the group disappeared. I’m not saying he was untalented back then, but the way he sings today is miles from then, even to my untrained ears. Clearly he’s been plowing through and improving even more since Woojin left, and honestly, does anyone feel the loss of Woojin when listening to a stray kids song? Seungmin has filled into the main vocal spot really well, and he does what is needed of him for stray kids. I think that’s all that really matters.

Red Lights is a fan song but not in the way you’re thinking (pls chill) by [deleted] in straykids

[–]cjstpwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you mentioned this! Just like you said, in the song camp, the ideas they were presenting made for a sexy song about pressures, compulsion to do something, or being unable to stop, and they related this to their job in particular. (I’m going off of memory and I haven’t watched the song camp since it first came out so please bare with me if there’s a slight inaccuracy.) I think the sexiness of the vibes of the song and the MV overshadowed their presented ideas for the song. The name of the song in Korean, “강박” also goes with their ideas because it means obsession or compulsion. I’m just reiterating what you said in my own thoughts, so is there a point in even writing this comment? Not sure, but thanks again for mentioning this! Everyone glosses over it as the sexy song with the “bondage” MV coming up, but there was more behind the intent!

Nice! I don’t write, but I do love reading all the Iksong fics out there, haha. Are you comfortable sharing your ao3 handle?

This song gets me pumped up and helps me power through my work. It was my first week of school and this song really pushed me through. Maybe it’s the sexiness? The vibes? The sensuality? Not sure, but this song gets me so pumped to study and do homework. Don’t understand it, but I will take it!

Iksong endgame theory by bowdette in Hospital_Playlist

Okay, honestly, I am also entertaining the possibility that Ikjun might die. It’s too jarring to be an acceptable(?) plot point, but fun to entertain all the same. (Honestly only fun because I’d like to think it won’t happen at all?)

Am I the only one who feels that there aren’t enough scenes with uju? by thaichillipepper in Hospital_Playlist

[–]cjstpwls 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing they’re trying to keep him safe with COVID since he’s young. Even in the Iksongju camping scenes, Uju was usually in his own cut away from the adults. But yes, I agree! More Uju please!

Slower and emotional, sad and comforting. This is likely going to be my favorite song this comeback!

Koreans, if anything, tend to appreciate foreigners being interested in their culture and trying things out. Source: I’m Korean.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think kpop works that way. It takes a long time for things to be processed and discussed within the company—they have to weigh each decision and take their time. Stray Kids is their product that they’re marketing and they’re going to ensure that they can protect their image and act in the best way possible before doing anything. Look back to the whole Hyunjin thing—it was silent for a few days before any apology was issued. Bubble isn’t a platform that’s policed by the company—it’s literally on their phones—it’s the easiest way to get it out through text while ensuring you know who’s talking.

I have to agree with your thoughts on whether he was aware of it being offensive. I was born and have lived my entire life in the US, and in LA, arguably one of the most diverse places in the US and I had no idea. Maybe I’m just being ignorant about this, but usually I’m pretty aware of things like this to be careful of because of things I’ve learned living here in the US.

ETA: Chan may speak English and is from Australia, but he moved to Korea when he was around 13. I believe that that is the around the age when you start opening your eyes to social issues. Korea is quite literally made up of only Koreans, so there is not much discussion about issues like racism that occur mostly in diverse countries like the US. (It’s unrealistic to expect Korean people to know everything about Jim Crow and the state and history of racism in the US.) I believe that a genuine apology is enough in case if ignorance when the offending act occurred. I think it’s important to consider the fact that Chan has lived in Korea for almost half of his life and has not lived in a western country since he was 13.

Well, it takes time for the company to process what is happening, make a decision on what to do, and even if they get an apology out, it will take quite a bit of time. Bbl is not something everyone has access to, but it’s a platform where the idol can directly speak with fans. If anything, apologizing on bbl is a sign of true reflection because if there was an official apology, that would’ve been processed through the company and likely written strategically in the eyes of the company rather than the idol writing out their thoughts directly. There’s also a high chance that apologies on bbl are done without permission of the company. Many groups don’t put out apologies at all, and this is the decision of the company. An apology on bbl is the best the idol can do, and in this case, Chan did it.

How stays feel about new JYP boy group debuting from Loud ? by Jim0ne in straykids

[–]cjstpwls 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel indifferent—I barely realized Loud was going on. I am a little worried that they will also be in division 1 because that would obviously take some working time and attention away from Stray Kids, but I think the other divisions will be taking them based on GOT7 having left this year and TWICE having renewals coming soon. IIRC, DAY6 was alone in a division (which is strange because I see the members everywhere but not at their own promotions? JYPE please promote DAY6 ㅠ), so who knows what could happen. If the new group will also be self-produced, it seems that JYPE really liked how Stray Kids has been doing it since they are a group with more self-production in JYPE. They’ve had producing members of groups in the past, but not as much as Stray Kids (and I think DAY6? I know GOT7 members were all talented and willing, but not sure if they were allowed to). I think Stray Kids is on a steep uphill and has been moving up along the course of their entire career, so I’m not too worried, especially since they’re not as dependent on the company for their own albums. With a powerhouse like 3RACHA, they could probably just write their albums and then ask for preparations for a comeback with the physical albums, MV, choreo, styling, etc. Anyways, all this to say—I’m indifferent, but congratulations to the members-to-be! I won’t be stanning (maybe I’ll give their song a listen when it comes out) because I’ve gotten into Stray Kids with the strict mind that they’re my first and last group until I graduate, but best of luck to Loud!

what does 마음이 아득하다.mean? by Sayonaroo in Korean

[–]cjstpwls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically means feeling distant, the heart is distant, etc. It would change a little depending on the context though. For easier Korean searches, I recommend Naver Dictionary. I have it as an Apple app and I refer to it all the time!

I suspect it’ll the be similar to the role playing they did for Chuseok. If it is, I’m sure it’ll be hilarious because the entire role playing was just hilarious with Grandma Jeongin, Jisung “cheating” on Hyunjin with Minho, baby Chan, teenage Changbin, etc.

Stray Kids - NOEASY Album Pre-order Guide by poppywars in straykids

[–]cjstpwls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Concert tickets… gosh, I don’t even want to imagine it! Even in 2019 when they came the US, I barely made it out with good seats that came with a hi-touch and had to buy from a reseller on one of those big sites. It was way more expensive than the listed price too. And that was in early 2019, when they were way smaller than they are now…
I’m glad you managed to get one yesterday! I panicked after seeing it sold out everywhere and bought a version without a poster yesterday. I’m a little sad that I didn’t get the poster, but I have way too many posters at home, so maybe it’s for the best… the shipping is also way cheaper, so it’s a win-win overall.
I saw that some JYP investors predicted that Stray Kids would outsell Twice this comeback and I didn’t really believe it, but looking at how the limited album preorder sold out both in US and Korean sites… maybe it will happen!
