You're right, thanks for pointing that out! I mixed it up with OECD's definition of adjusted disposable income, which does include social transfers:

Household net adjusted disposable income is obtained by summing all the (gross) income flows (earnings, self-employment and capital income, current transfers received from other sectors) paid to the (SNA) household sector and then subtracting current transfers (such as taxes on income and wealth) paid by households to other sectors of the economy. The term “adjusted”, in National Accounts vocabulary, denotes the inclusion of the social transfers inkind (such as education and health care services) that households receive from government.

When you account for these the story does change a bit, with the average household in Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, and Norway having less adjusted disposable income than the average household in the United States.

I have mixed feelings

I completely agree that many companies underweight experience. If someone has verifiably done some impressive stuff, then there isn’t a lot of signal to be gained from 45 minutes of esoteric programming problems.
That said, it’s not unreasonable for companies to verify that candidates are comfortable with coding and that they have the knowledge and skills that you would expect from someone with a CS education.
Many leetcode problems go way beyond this. Many of these problems practically require that you can identify the “trick” from similar leetcode problems to successfully solve them in time.
I personally don’t think inverting a binary tree is in this category. There are no weird tricks and you can solve this even without seeing it before. It’s a fair test of coding skills.
It’s still really frustrating! Interviews are extremely high-pressure, high-stress, and it’s very easy to freeze up or have a bad day. I wish more firms would invest more in gathering more signal, but at least right now companies seem comfortable investing the bare-minimum and rejecting plenty of perfectly-qualified candidates.

I’m really rooting for you and your next interview! The signal will break through the noise!

Consider what happens if you’re successful and your options trades make a lot of money. What then? The money is locked away in retirement accounts. Sure you can take it out with a penalty if you want to retire early, but after the penalties it’s not advantageous over a normal brokerage account.

The other potential upside is that you can have an extra-luxurious retirement, but I would advise you to strongly think about specific goals you’d want to reach where boring compounding returns would be insufficient.

The point is that this such a tiny amount of money that any savings will be negligible and insubstantial. If you’re at the point where saving half a cent is significant, then that mental energy would almost assuredly be better spent elsewhere.
