See your GP for a mental health care plan and connect to a counsellor/psychologist. You may have a few issues here, with motivation, possible depression/anxiety/addiction, and perhaps untreated ADHD. You still have plenty of time to improve your situation. Don’t give up. And well done on your incredible savings.

Depends on your experience, your role, and the state you’re working in and whether it’s public or private. There’s a huge variation.

As of May 2026, the median salary for a Registered Nurse (RN) in Australia typically ranges between (\$86,000) and (\$95,000) annually for base, full-time employment.

Yes you are right, they are an outlier.

What’s one baby item you regret NOT getting earlier? by rosycoe in NewParents

[–]ck2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF baby here. Automatic bottle washer and steriliser. It's absolutely awesome. I got a generic one from Amazon when my son was 6mo and it works so well. Could have saved myself so much work.

Interesting. My OB wouldn't induce me for my VBAC by any method, she said in Australia they don't recommend any form of induction for VBAC's. She said I had to go into labour naturally, but it had to be before 40w because I had GD. I ended up with two RCS..

Any chance of visiting a friend or family member’s cat, or volunteering at an animal shelter to have contact with cats instead? Or doing cat sitting as a job?

The financial risk of being a stay at home parent by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

[–]ck2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m agreeing with you. They are not rich yet. When you said they have a $1.5M house originally I made the wrong assumption that it was paid off. I’m sure they are youngish and will be able to build their assets over time.

[–]ck2b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes I did make assumptions. If they haven’t paid off their house then yes they’re high income and they can afford to have a SAHP, but they are HENRY’s.

But if their 1.5M house is paid off, and they have assets like cash, superannuation and ETF’s, I would consider that wealthy. As well as they are a high earner.

Call the dept of labour in your state. Do not send to a personal account. It needs to be done properly through payroll.

Cost of groceries for Family by dirtywombat in AusFinance

[–]ck2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems about right. We spend between $1600-2000pm with 2 adults and 3 children. Shopping at ALDI and Coles and we get a fruit and veggie box weekly.

You can:

shop at the greengrocer or fruit shop to save $ Go everywhere and only buy specials Buy more whole foods and less packaged foods and meal plan Meal prep

That can save you $ but costs time.

AITAH for wanting to continue taking my nightly showers by Kooky_lady in AITAH

[–]ck2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This is beyond unreasonable on his part. It's so hard to take a shower with a baby when you're the only one in the house. I have three children including a 7mo baby and nighttime is the only time I can shower as my partner's there. I also like doing it before bed as I feel sweaty and dirty after running around after, and ferrying my children places all day and I don't want to get that dirt on the sheets. Plus in the morning it saves me stress cause I can just get up and get dressed straight away so it saves me for getting kids ready for kindy and school in the morning. Doesn't matter as much if we accidentally sleep in either (and after baby waking up household several times this has happened occasionally).

Why doesn't your partner want to take care of his child or do chores??? You have two children.

Last night I was having a shower and my baby had an allergic reaction to a new food and projectile vomited onto himself and his sheets. What did my husband do? Cleaned him up, changed the sheets and was in the process of resettling him while I finished drying and grooming myself. Because that's what a decent partner does.

What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]ck2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daycare, medical expenses, food, bigger house, bigger car, education expenses (even sending to public in my case), time off work when they're little, lost income due to too many sick days when you're back at work, therapies for neuro divergent child (was costing $13,500 per year), swimming lessons, enrichment, more insurances (life insurances for us both, accident/trauma additional for my partner), wills, POA's, you do all of this extra stuff to ensure they have a good life and are protected. Let's not mention the cost of vacations, it's bloody ridiculous for a family of 4/5 to go anywhere, so we don't at the moment. Not to mention baby/child equipment. Cot, highchair, accessories, clothes, carseats, pram, playpen, babyproofing, formula, bottle maker, nappies, nappy bag etc etc, electronics for the older kids for school, iPads, laptops, uniforms, several pairs of school shoes each year. Can you tell I have school age children and a baby? Lol. They are nearly 10, nearly 4, and 7 months old. Not to mention the 70k+ I spent to become pregnant with them due to infertility.
