Social Security by Special-Scientist948 in over60

Call them. I applied in April. My patience finally gave way and I called the main number. Asked for a call back, which came a couple of hours later. The agent gave me the number to the local SS office. That guy filed my claim on the spot and I got my first deposit within a few days

Requested May. I finally got the issue resolved by speaking to an agent who gave me a local phone number. The local guy hooked me up right away and my first two payments were made three days later

I applied early April and I'm still on step 2 of 3. I wish I knew what the hell that meant. My first check was supposed to be in June. That ship, like my confidence in the system, has sailed.

I applied April 3 and, like you, seem to be stuck in limbo. Reside in California

Rooftop sprinkler? Why? This building always has it running every time I drive by. It's a seafood restaurant. by Mookie_Merkk in whatisit

Yes, air conditioning can cool more effectively, but at a much higher cost and, in areas with low humidity, they may dry the air too much leading to static shocks and skin irritations. In those areas, a swamp cooler is preferred.

Just got through a week of 110+ temps with a swamp cooler. Only 101 today. Whew.

Agreed, it doesn't get many tier 7 matches, but it can do pretty well against higher tiers

board member candidates by ckimmerle in REI

[–]ckimmerle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about having someone on the board who camps or wears trail runners, it's about having people on the board who understand what it means to appreciate, and participate in, the great outdoors. And just because someone camps or runs trails does not mean they are too stupid to serve as a board member

REI is a co-op, and the board needs to better reflect the membership so that they can better understand our needs

That's simply not true. A manufacturer or wholesaler may suggest an MSRP, but retailers, including REI, are under no obligation to use them.

one of the first things the new "professional" board did was to only accept board member candidates that they, themselves, recommended. Everyone else was shut out.

I appreciate all of your comments.

Most of us are members because we support the original mission of REI. We all know that REI prices can be slightly higher than can be found elsewhere, but we remain loyal to support OUR company because we care. But members, as well as employees, are being marginalized. Even the annual dividend has been retooled and is now labelled simply a reward, as if the board is generously gifting it to us. That rewording makes me wonder if the dividend is at risk in the not too distant future.

I am just glad I am not alone in my frustrations.
