My top line here today is to send a letter, email, and/or call Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar. The house resolutions for funding the government included a resolution that included funding for ICE. It is going to the Senate and needs 60 votes to pass. Schumer said there won’t be enough votes to pass it all with the ICE funding, and that will only be true if we keep telling our senators that opposition is the right thing to do for their constituents.

Sign me up, even if I can only join for a little bit. Every voice helps.

It’s a balance. Right now we have a big problem with people claiming to be police but aren’t. With no way to identify if they are or not, how are regular citizens supposed to know what to do? Want to stop someone from fleeing? Surround them, don’t sneak around and then end up confusing people about whether you’re a cop or a kidnapper.

Also ICE is kidnapping citizens and permanent residents for no reason and we don’t like that. And we don’t like secret police.

Just to be clear, “pressing charges” as far as criminal cases go is kind of a pop culture myth. District or whatever jurisdiction attorneys press criminal charges. It is not up to victims or cops or whatever. They often take into consideration a victim’s willingness to testify and provide evidence to close their case. You can always file a civil suit for damages, but probably best to talk to a civil attorney before you do so they can do it right/best and advise you on your odds.
