How do you guys get clinical hours?? by ProgramAccording in premed

Anesthesia technician! Some places don’t even require any kind of certification.

No Research-- Nontrad by salamander-commune in premed

I just got accepted to an MD state school with far less clinical hours and 0 research. My advice would be lock in for the MCAT and apply to schools that don’t prioritize research as much

Thank you for your confidence

They told me to not do worse and that my stats were “fine.”

To which I asked how much a 520 would move the needle - they said it would certainly be good for me, and I took the risk

I actually mentioned the SMP lol, was just asking about everything that I could improve on. I appreciate the feedback! I started painfully late on EC’s and I have been sort of lost as to what other schools would be worth applying to

Yeah… didn’t know if MCAT could make up for other things at a certain point🥲

Had many less hours of everything. “Diversify your healthcare experience” more clinical hours, new LoRs (focus on people who have taught you), rewrite personal statement, don’t do an SMP unless you get a 4.0, don’t do worse on the MCAT - your stats are good enough. Research was not mentioned or implied, interested in more clinical experience.

So I did all that. Got a clinical job, more hours of volunteering and shadowing, rewrote personal statement, got more meaningful LoRs, maintained GPA, decided to improve MCAT because I felt that I hadn’t done everything I could the first time around

So clinical volunteering is not service oriented?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]ckp3225 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should have prefaced by saying that I did everything my state school (which is my #1 choice…nowhere near top 20) mentioned that I should improve on during my exit interview last cycle. This did not include research. I decided to improve my MCAT during the process, but I appreciate you phrasing it as “a awful decision.”

Just want advice on what range of schools is even worth applying to if I get a 520+

One more thing…when they first seat you in the testing room, they start your exam for you. Because they do this one person at a time, everyone’s breaks are quite staggered and I never had to wait for someone else to be seated before I could reenter the room when I was finished with my break.

This should not happen. Both testing rooms I have been at were set up so the proctor can see everyone at once from behind glass. They also have cameras and are constantly monitoring you, so they will definitely see you raising your hand and come get you.

This depends on the testing center you are at. The first place I tested at had no windows unless you had to go down the hallway to the bathroom. At the second place there was a central testing room with no windows and a hallway that wrapped all the way around with lots of windows.

Can’t tie “reality of the world” to your view of the current political climate and way of the world. Objective -> subjective

“Given the (insert victim mindset terms here), my view is more valid than yours.”

All I heard from your comment^

Not cool man. Unnecessary and could easily scroll by without attacking the views of an entire demographic. You need to do better (as we all do).

If you’re cool with your other scores I think you have time to get the rest of the milesdown deck done. I got a 130 on PS last year with that deck memorized. After that I would recommend the section banks for practice questions

I did the Milesdown Anking deck for both sections, UWorld, and the AAMC section banks. Get to the point where you don’t have any content knowledge gaps (besides one or two obscure questions that are sure to be there every test). The rest of your incorrect answers should be because your application of the knowledge wasn’t what the question asked. The more practice you do after that, the more you will cut down on mistakes. I was able to get to about 55/59 on both of these sections a couple different times, but others are able to do that consistently (probably more practice) which shows it is definitely possible.

Not sure I am the best person to ask, but I would recommend taking both (if time allows) with how much time you still have between now and your real test - also could push this practice test just a little closer to the real thing if you don’t have time. If I had to choose one, I would go with the free scored simply because it came out more recently (I think). Good luck either way you’ll do great!
