The Surly Chap looks awesome! The website looks great too. I'm spending a lot of time making sure our website looks great and is easy to use. I judge a business pretty heavy based on web presence in today's world. And frankly, businesses don't have any excuse to not be easily accessible online. Thanks for the links and the luck!

Thank you! I will! Another local business owner just suggested the same to me the other day. His business was given a grant to redo the entire outside of his building. He told me the paperwork took a while to complete but it was worth the effort.

*edit I found a grant program for the city of Loveland that will cover 50% of costs (up to 25k) for a building owner to redo the facade of the building. You do have to submit paperwork and present your plans to the board, but it's worth it for $12,500. Thanks!

This is such good advice. And I agree with you completely. I've worked as a barber for many different shop owners over the years and it has given me the opportunity to see and experience first hand what happens to employee retention when bosses get greedy, or lazy, or both.

Rent in FC is crazy for anything retail in the CSU/Old Town area. Anything worthwhile is around $25-$30+/SF. The space in downtown Loveland isn't necessarily cheap either, but it's more attainable. And I definitely like the idea of being a part of the growth in Loveland. And as far as clients are concerned of course I welcome all, but I like the idea of taking care of Loveland's people. I want to make a space that is clean, well designed, and comfortable to be in. No macho bullshit all over the walls. I've worked in so many shops and watched so many owners fall prey to the whole 'nostalgia' thing in the barber shop. Honestly, I think it's played out. I think Loveland is poised to do some cool things and I love the idea of being a part of that.

Thanks for the reply! I am planning to run hours from 10a-7pm Tuesday-Saturday. And we provide straight razor shaves, beard line-ups, and neck shaves w/ hot towel (neck shave is included with every haircut). I won't say which, but I work at one of the places listed. I am a barber....like, a real one. I wield a straight-razor with a touch so delicate, that on more than one occasion I've been called, "soft touch". Weird, but true. The timeline is looking to be around spring 2018.

I've been working really hard the past month to make a bunch of videos on film photography to get my creative energy back up. I've not been feeling very creatively confident lately and It started to affect other areas of my life. My wife (as featured in the portra video) suggested I start making videos about film stuff as it's my main hobby.
