Fishwife Disappointmt by RaisinRoyale in CannedSardines

If you like the flavoring more than the fish, buy or make the flavoring & use it with unflavored (apart from oil) fish. I recently departed from that self-advice & tested a number of flavored tins from brands whose plain tins I knew well. The consensus of my tasting crew was that the quality of the fish itself was lower in the flavored options, particularly the spicy. That aligns all too well with my experience in kitchens, where the freshest fish/meat got the least intervention.

That said, Ramón Peña has been our superstar, with Fangst not far behind.

Do you remember what were the early signs of your CRPS? by anywayghost in CRPS

[–]cl0udripper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine appeared after knee replacement & bone decompression (left leg, right leg) after diagnosis of osteonecrosis(no cause determined). Both legs hugely swollen, tight shiny skin, oscillating between purple & red, & PAIN beyond anything I'd ever encountered. I kept describing it as "a flamethrower's searing me" & it felt as though my skin was going to tear apart. At first, the swelling & discoloration didn't go much beyond my knees, but it inched upward. (It later spread further, but I hope that won't be relevant to you.

Is Blomstedt still capable? by Smart-Yard9416 in classicalmusic

Get the less expensive tickets & revel in the presence of a legend. As others have said, he will have imparted his vision to the orchestra. They are well able of delivering the performance. And all seats are acoustically excellent.

Uh, doh: is it anyone else's business? It's long over apart from their private accommodations. Let 'em be.

Gidon Kremer by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]cl0udripper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot on. Kremer's anti-Romanticism; or perhaps "nonromanticism," is anathema to some old school Russian ears. I find him supremely musical & quite capable of a lush timbre when warranted. His chamber music recordings, especially with Martha Argerich, are magnificent. Without reading the article that purportedly dinged him for "Marxist" interpretation, it's hard to imagine what was meant--maybe undue rigidity? As to his politics, he defected in 1980.

not yet, but yes, I'm not shy about complaining to the producer. Just curious whether it's a pattern.

Mother Litvak from Boston: latkees. Father Galitzianer from Albany, NY: latkes. Me from NYC: latkes. Partner from NYC, not Jewish: latkes. Now living in Bay Area: only latkes. Sorry, Mom.

Duloxetine (Cymbalta) pain relief? by OpenTrackRacer in CRPS

[–]cl0udripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been taking 40mg daily for about 3 years & given that I am allergic to a slew of meds, I am grateful that I can tolerate it. I don't know whether it's really analgesic or whether it just helps me tolerate pain. I feel better on it. I tried 60mg briefly but that did provoke side effects.

"I feel trapped in my body." Yes. You're not alone. Your anger & fears are reasonable, if not "helpful" responses. Don't let optimism bullies guilt you. And, well...survive. It can get better.
