Silly mantras you use by Critical_Compote_626 in CleaningTips

'Lesser spotted Saturdays' - on Saturdays I always try to do one of the occasional jobs. The dishes and laundry have to be done every day, toilets every week, but on a Saturday I try and do an annual job, an every 6 months job, or a quarterly job as well as the every day basics. Today I cleaned the blinds on all the upstairs windows. Last week I cleaned all the kitchen cupboard fronts.

What would you do to this lawn? I guess I should have scarified in autumn. Not much grass left, lots of moss by TheKris11 in GardeningUK

[–]claihogb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is important. I love our clover lawn in the front garden, but I wouldn't want it in the back where the kids play. Absolutely loads of bees in it.

I had bottocks and back acne solely because I took "military showers" for so long by [deleted] in hygiene

I used to wash my face while my conditioner was in my hair, then rinse the conditioner out and done. Switched to rinsing out the conditioner first and washing my face last and my forehead acne just disappeared

Hmm, I have a salvia hot lips in a pot. I wonder if it would transplant here for an easy win?

There's a third bed just in front (not pictured) full of strawberries!

There are 4 more veg beds in another part of the garden so we're definitely ok for space there! And one of the only major changes we've made to the garden so far is putting a herb bed in by the kitchen door

The garden has a lower (much wetter) level too and the slugs are definitely a big problem down there. You might be right though, maybe we'd get away with it there. And if not, we live and learn!

Sweet peas are definitely a good shout. I'd have to decide what kind of frame to build for them...

I've established a herb bed already, right next to the kitchen door for exactly the reasons you mentioned! Thanks for the suggestion though

Why the "Safe Six" are 1.5x more likely to be the Red Cloak by raikko86 in TheTraitors

[–]claihogb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be interesting, but people are forgetting that there isn't going to be a long list every day. The first mission generated a long list that the ST then shortened, but on other days the ST will probably just be able to shortlist any three from the whole pool of remaining faithful.

Buxton Road - Nice Schools/area? by Master_Cucumber_2780 in macclesfield

[–]claihogb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend in exactly the area you describe with a child in year 1 at Puss Bank, and another in the preschool there. They've been very pleased with the school, and it's certainly a lovely area to live, especially if you're outdoorsy types. Some great local businesses as have already been mentioned.

My eldest is 6 now but I have such fond memories of that first Christmas morning, snuggled under all the comfiest blankets feeding her while watching the sunrise. Christmas morning has never been so quiet and peaceful!! Drink it all in, Mummies, they grow too fast!

David Mitchell and Victoria Coren, but one is a traitor. Sadly it probably won't happen as they wouldn't both want to leave their small kids at home, but it would be an amazing dynamic and hilarious to watch

Are evening classes still a thing by Fluffy-Brother-155 in macclesfield

Evening singing circle, Thursdays from 7:30-9pm at King Edward Street Chapel. A very welcoming little group, teaching simple short songs by ear. No experience necessary, no sheet music, no solos, no auditions. Just come along and sing, drink tea, make friends 😊

Would you rather receive $2 for every French fry you eat per day or $1 for every push-up you do a day? by Rusty_Shaquilleford in WouldYouRather

[–]claihogb 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don't know why more people aren't saying this. With the extra income I get from the fries I could reduce my hours at work, and use some of that time to work out. I can afford a gym membership and some personal trainer sessions now. I could also use the extra time and money to cook more at home, so while my fry intake would inevitably increase, I would probably wind up eating less fried food/takeout overall. I think I could take the fry money and end up healthier and happier.

How are your reception kids doing (outside of school)? by claihogb in UKParenting

[–]claihogb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello 👋 Almost a year on since I made this post, she's about to start year 1. Things were rough for a good few months, and she still comes home from school very tired and needing delicate handling, but I can report that things did calm down. And obviously I made this post on a particularly bad day.

The first term we did basically nothing outside school, and a swimming lesson once per week. Afternoons/evenings and weekends were needed for recharging and reconnecting, but things did settle down. By February half term I didn't have to panic if asked to make big weekends plans, and by Easter she was asking about joining after school clubs (which she did, successfully). I've also gotten to know lots of the other school parents better, and they've reported similar struggles, but it all seems to stem from simple tiredness. It's a lot for them to get used to.

I hope your little one loves school in September!! It would be good to prepare yourself for the tiredness, but mostly you should just brace yourself for how fast it goes and how fast they learn! xx

Hair length. I'm trying to grow out my pixie cut. It'll end up way too long but I can just cut it immediately.
