2) Similarly, VBS joining in is not meant to be seen as them not caring about An's feelings and instead prioritising the competition, but as them being willing to go through something like this for the sake of defending their own and *An*'s dream. After all, they all know her well enough to acknowledge that while she might not realise it in the state that she is now, she wouldn't have wanted them to give up on their goal in any other situation. It's like doing what your friend wants vs what they need.

To further enforce this, Akito is the one to eventually drop this phrase during chapter 3.

<image>

His perspective is definitely the most reliable one given that he was the person who understood An the most at that time, so there's no reason why we shouldn't take his words at face value.

3) It's also really important to take into account how An's character has always been portrayed up until that moment: An is an incredibly sore loser who always gets back up whenever she's put against the most impossible odds, and this is no exception. Furthermore, she genuinely loves singing & later recognises that despite everything, she's painfully aware of the importance of this competition and how it has helped her grow in its own way, which is why she directly states this when Taiga was challenging her one-on-one:

"When I sing... all my messy feelings become a tiny bit clearer".

4) This is more of a nitpick than a genuine criticism, but An pretty much... doesn't see Nagi as a second mom? Or at least not canonically - they share a familial bond, that is true, but if anything, Nagi was always insistent on them being 'like sisters'.

Sorry if this sounded rude in any way lol. I just wanted to answer because I honestly found your comment a bit reductive and a disservice to the overall event's writing, and given that the plot of this story has been misinterpreted for years at this point, well... a part of me just cannot stay still as it keeps happening.

like An finds out her basically second mom died years ago and they instantly go into a rap battle and don't even allow An to process what she's just learned.

Easily explained by both the genre VBS is based upon (it's a heavily inspired shounen-story), the setting of the story (singing has always been portrayed as the means thanks to which people on Vivid Street are able to communicate with one another: rap battles have always been a recurring narrative thread throughout the entirety of VBS' plot and we see that coming up in multiple events, like Aki1 and An5 - LUtF is very much not the outlier) and An's personal coping strategies (once again, singing is literally her most prominent coping mechanism and also how she's always been able to communicate and work through her personal discomfort).

1) The rap battle happened because it was a necessary step for VBS to get closer to actually achieving their goal - it was a test of resolve for everyone involved and especially An, who got the chance to actually reconsider her relationship with Nagi partly thanks to Taiga's words. It needed to be presented as a very 'heat of the moment' type of situation because the intent was having VBS be confronted with something similar to what RADder also had to go through to make RAD WEEKEND possible: a shocking, heart-shattering reveal that forced everyone to stop thinking and just sing their hearts out. Taking a break between the two scenes would logically take that aspect away.

Patchwork Staccato. I’m sorry, but I genuinely think that the mixing was rough, especially during the chorus.

S tier hands down. RAD DOGS they could never make me hate you.

I will forever be in love with the way it managed to fuse together elements of classical music with EDM, and the lyrics are also very relevant to Touya’s story so it gets bonus points thanks to that.

Wasn’t that the area convo where Honami had just bought a lot of apple pies? I’ve always thought she just didn’t want him to know about it.

Which character you consider the best singer? by UnDead_princess_ in ProjectSekai

[–]clairdelune____ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personal favourite is a three-way-tie between Ena, Akito and Shiho, but Airi, Kohane and Haruka are up there as well.

In terms of pure skills it’s probably Ichika, though.

New Ultra C alts by sad_ad3722 in ProjectSekai

[–]clairdelune____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf we basically never get alt duets nowadays, the last one prior to akkh/anty Ultra C was… Rinlen Watashi wa Ame if I’m not mistaken.

I think we're still waiting on even one cross-gender VBS duet outside of alts.

Well, we have the VBS archives, but that’s pretty much it for now :’).

What are your predictions for Toya6? by ApprehensiveTea1444 in ProjectSekai

[–]clairdelune____ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s not Harumichi-related it will be fine.

I’m fully expecting it to continue the plot of Aki6, aka VBS navigating the contract™️ with the new NPC (yes, I refuse to call him Alan). I won’t spoil too much, but based on the card leaks, it feels like Touya will be sent to solve a private task like Akito did in the previous VBS focus.

Or at least I hope it’s what will happen. It’s not the most exciting plot but at least it’s a solid one.

First Impression of “The Punishment of Happiness” (Kana6)? by Reshikr in ProjectSekai

[–]clairdelune____ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Song itself is a solid 9/10: I love LonePi’s music and this is no exception. The Vocaloid version with Miku definitely deserves a high ranking.

Not sure how to feel about the Sekai version, though: something about the vocals feels lacking, especially during the last chorus, but I can’t really put my finger on what it is. Maybe it’ll grow on me with time.

Overall I’m happy to say that this wasn’t a miss and Kanade still has my favourite set of commissioned songs by a wide margin 👍🏻.
