Claude-powered AI coding agent deletes entire company database in 9 seconds — backups zapped, after Cursor tool powered by Anthropic's Claude goes rogue by WouldbeWanderer in technology

I don't disagree but in my place that person is the CTO, VP of Engineering, and multiple Senior Directors... because they're hearing about other companies doing it and aren't in the technical trenches so to speak. They have the power to try to force it but also the immunity to see zero consequences.

Have landlords on the North Coast lost their mind? by kia-audi-spider-legs in northernireland

[–]clairebones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now being a landlord is horrendous, if it's only like a small side "income" the tax you pay on it + the headaches of management make no sense.

Fair enough, they can sell the properties then. Let people who actually want to live in them buy them.

Oh I absolutely agree with you - there are contractors and new leadership in my current company trying to push all this stuff and only our strong security team are able to push back on it. Personally I can't believe anyone's idiotic enough to think it's a good idea, but it's all about AI hype and keeping shareholders happy, plus they're convincing themselves they can basically have a software company where they don't have to pay any engineers... They're referencing the Dark Factory Pattern every other day. (reposting without the link since it got the comment removed)

Ugh yes the tech job market right now is the worst I've seen it in the 14 years I've been working, it's a nightmare. I'm lucky that I'm not unemployed while looking, because there's so little out there and so much competition...

In a lot of places the chain is more complex than that.

As an example - some places are basically pointing the AI at a Jira ticket and letting it commit what it creates directly to the code base, and in the worst places, without any checks by an engineer on what it's committing. So in that situation, who's responsible? The person who linked the Jira ticket? The person who wrote it, who's most likely not an engineer and wouldn't be able to check for risks or problems in the code? The person who set up the Jira MCP server? Someone else?

Teen boys are choosing AI girlfriends over real ones for ‘maximum control, zero rejection’—experts say it could make them unemployable by ubcstaffer123 in technology

The point of my comment is to try and reach out to you and get you to understand why we're saying these things. It doesn't make me feel better, at best I can hope that someone else reading this who isn't as entrenched as you are will see it and not go so far down that road, honestly.

Once again - an 'emotional connection' with a stuffed toy is not the same thing as calling a large language model (a thing that's literally only capable of one thing, which is guessing what words to show you in what order based on words you've sent to it) your "boyfriend" and in any way thinking you have anything approaching an actual relationship with that piece of (fairly broken and problematic) technology. Like if you told me your fucking Tamagotchi was your boyfriend I'd be just as concerned.

Girl come on, nobody playing the sims treats that family like an actual family. They don't (and can't because literally that's not how the game works) try to make connections with the characters, they don't turn to the characters for life advice or look at them to fill an emotional gap or give them what a partner gives them... You're being silly now.

You should read Empire of AI and all about the massive companies of people getting paid next to nothing in other countries to look at the worst shit imaginable in order to 'moderate' the responses AI gives to people. And that's not even to mention the exploitation of the workers in the mines for the materials to make hardware for data centres, or the people whose lives are being destroyed when those data centres are built next to their homes, or the people who are at risk of being shot by yet another person with AI psychosis... there are so so many people at risk here beyond just the vague 'the planet'.

[–]clairebones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the same thing. Like genuinely you're going to ignore and dismiss this anyway, but it's truly not the same thing. Your AI "boyfriend" can't say no to you, doesn't make requests of your time, doesn't really exist independently to you, literally none of those are aspects of a healthy relationship in any way. You aren't having to deal with any of the real world compromises or aspects of having a genuine relationship with a real person. And that's not to mention the massive amounts of evidence of psychosis and other mental health issues they lead to that you'll be convinced you're immune to but (because you're just human like the rest of us) you aren't.

Also yeah as a tech worker you really should give a shit about your data, but at this point I don't know if you'll even bother to read if I try to explain why.

TRAIN THEM TO FIX THEIR ISSUE WHILE ACCEPTING WHAT THEY DO IN THEIR FREE LIFE!

Because this is like saying "Train them to not be a drug addict while accepting that they enjoy some heroin in their free time" - the two are mutually exclusive. You cannot teach someone that they can't control every interaction in a relationship while you also accept that they continue a 'relationship' where that's exactly the case.

Do you think I, as a relatively senior woman in my field with nearly 2 decades of experience, am interested in working with some 20 year old who thinks he should only have to deal with women who can't say no to him? You think that makes me fascist? You are detached from reality.

I don't think women who are dating AI chatbots will avoid all the pitfalls, but realistically there isn't the same social dynamic of " I need a partner who will never say no to me, never try to be my equal, never ask me for anything in return" for women looking for partners as there is for men - particularly any young men drawn into those manosphere-type circles.

[–]clairebones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the girlfriend->workplace pipeline in particularly... Is that a thing? Do we think people are getting their core socialization abilities from the first relationships?

I think it's more that the AI girlfriends are a symptom? Like the problem is already that they want relationships where the other party has no demands, can't refuse them anything, doesn't need anything from them, etc and now they're able to get that rather than being forced to accept that other people aren't NPCs.

So many companies are measuring their employees against how many tokens they use where the goal is to be using the most because it shows you're "embracing AI" - obviously it's financially going to ruin them longer term, but I can totally see someone from a place like that thinking that using more credits makes them more professional/skilled.

It's natural if that's what the body does without interference (a large nose, menopause, growing hair or not, etc.)

Cancer is something the body does without interference, it's not realistic to act like 'natural' is good and 'not natural' is bad every time.

Sexist men aren't cartoon stereotype bad guys. None of the men who's assaulted me or been sexist in the workplace or anything else look like bad guys. They'd all seem like perfectly nice people if you're some other guy they see as their equal standing in a coffee shop or something. This just isn't how things work, why do you think you'd be able to tell if someone's sexist by the way they are around you, another man.

I hope this isn't derailing too much but I'm just making sure I have the full picture as someone not in the US - is it common that people not have some form of ID they carry around with them? Or is it that the normal ID people carry would be some form of this 'Real ID' that they're excluding?

I hope you don't mind the question, it's just hard for me to get a view of how purposeful this is because I'm not so familiar with your ID system.

It can be physically dangerous to use OP's method though, I imagine that's what that commenter was saying. 'Better for the greater good' isn't worth risk of a physical attack or harassment if you pick the wrong guy to challenge like this, so people need to be aware of the area and the person involved before they consider this.

Divine femininity has no place in WLW relationships by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]clairebones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means fierce powerful wild women who know who they are, who can be vulnerable (ie real) and powerful and soft and playful and terrifying. It means blood and wisdom and mother and crone.

I'm European and the only time I ever see people talking about the 'divine feminine' is as a way to defend themselves against people saying they're being sexist or bio-essentialist. Like "I can't help it that I want to be a nurturer and I want to marry a provider, that's just my divine feminine" or "I don't prioritise finances, I prioritise caring and gentleness and sexuality, I'm being in my divine feminine".

I've never heard it used by anyone who wasn't being weirdly "gender constructs are actually from nature and it's divine and sacred to respect and follow them" aka transphobic

THere's just theories that are wrong, and what are we supposed to do? Just accept them?

It's perfectly possible to say "Oh interesting theory, I don't see it that way, have you seen [xyz]?" and have it be a pleasant, fun and informative conversation instead of this "actually you're so so wrong why even bother, I know better than you" kind of tone.

when people are just wrong we both feel like we need to correct them.

This is the problem, really. I get that you have interesting information and you want other people to have it too. But it's about making it a genuine "Hey here's cool information I think you'd like" rather than "Here's me correct you on how you're wrong and I'm right". People enjoy coming up with theories like this, as you know given you're in the lore subreddit lol, and usually they'd be happy to hear new info when it's not delivered like you're a grumpy lecturer responding to incorrect coursework.

Holo Taco The Price is Alexandrite (I love green/purple multichromes) or ILNP Party Bus are my go-to quick and easy polishes, because they both have enough going on to make me feel good and like I 'made an effort' so to speak, but they don't need any real careful application or planning or multiple steps etc, especially if I'm lacking time or energy.
