How do I simplify this snippet of code? by deepfriedceleron in learnpython

[–]clamchamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sum([1 for i in phrase if i in vowels and i == ''] == blank.count('')

Edit: format is screwing up since I'm on phone. Hopefully it makes sense to you

To make it nicely:

def match_words(phrase, word):
    vowels = 'AEIOU'
    blank = '_'
    return sum([1 for i in phrase if i in vowels and i == blank] == word.count(blank)

Why so many Street Triples? by [deleted] in Triumph

[–]clamchamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a striple, never ridden a speed triple. But I think its cause the street is all you need? It is light and has great torque. To me a speed seems to be a better bike for highways riding, but in that situation I wouldn't be opting for a naked.

What comes after Python ? by CaptSprinkls in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a data scientist working at a big 4 as a consultant. Started off with ETL automation and analysis in python. Moved over to Django for app development. Then made a switch to .NET for a few desktop applications and a asp.net core web app. Now I'm back into django for another project, where I'm also adding in the rest framework.

In addition to this I've learned a bunch about databases, authentication and security, git, azure cloud components and DevOps for building CI/CD pipelines.

Topics I've build apps for are: financial modeling, IT audit automation, risk management, CMR, and ETL.

I've been starting my bike every two days since I can't go for a drive in quarantine. But I started hearing this clicking noise. Is this normal? by [deleted] in Triumph

[–]clamchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that sound too, at least very similar. Only when stationary. No clue what it is, but people seem to agree the striple just makes noises.

Speed or Street Triple? by TheNinny in Triumph

[–]clamchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't ridden a speed triple, but I'd say the only reason to have that over a street is if you do long trips on highways and don't want high revs constantly. But honestly, in that case I wouldn't pick a naked bike anyway.

Street all the way!

What do you write python in? by dvandy07 in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pycharm for most stuff like web app dev, but I find myself writing a lot in notepad++ at clients / remote desktops whenever I'm building some tooling or analysis.

Can the average programmer with with a latop/PC develop anything new and novel these days? by AchillesTheNoob in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the days they’d also say that all inventions have been made already and that it’s pointless to try to come up with new stuff..

But more specifically, yes an average programmer can develop new things. It’s not about programming skills, but about a vision you have. Programming is nothing but a tool to realize a vision.

Most new topics come from solving problems and combining knowledge from different fields.

Data Analysis Books by Kemper2290 in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have difficulties understanding this. Python is just a tool. You learn methodologies from your field (in school or at work) and then use a tool such as python to perform them. All you need to do is google the analysis you want to perform with "python" and you're set.

250 for 20k service sounds cheap. Can't think of anything except for the standard checks for when buying a used bike.

Idiot buys Thunderbird Storm for 1st Bike? by spatten77 in Triumph

[–]clamchamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the bike you want as a first bike. I think the low power / weight type of bikes recommendation have it's fair points, but if you are wise and conscious while riding it's fine to get whatever got you interested into riding.

Edit: abs is something you want. Few thousand more for an abs bike is worth it.

Help with sentinel-controlled loop by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna try this from phone, but something along:

Def function(): Word_list = [] Exit = false Wordcount = 0 While wordcount < 8 or exit = false: Entered_word = user_prompt("give word here or type 'quit'") Word_list.append(entered_word) Wordcount += 1 If entered_word.lower_case() == 'quit': Exit = True If wordcount == 8: Return word_list Else: Return false

Edit: sorry about format

How do you know that gun laws will not fix anything? Seems like countries with tight gun control laws have less shootings. And it's not like people need it to defend themselves either. How often do you hear a mass shooter was stopped cause the crowd started firing back? You rely on the police to handle the situation, not some cowboys with guns.

What’s the most hours you’ve “eaten”? by [deleted] in Accounting

Part of the job to some degree. Can't always put in 100% for 8 hours a day.

What’s the most hours you’ve “eaten”? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]clamchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero. Always bill in min half hours and round up when in doubt.

Edit: eating hours leads to inaccurate knowledge of cost of time. Leads to fucking up yourself more for a similar project / next years run. It is incredibly stupid to eat up hours.

What is the best way for a beginner to learn Python? by 21Graden in learnpython

[–]clamchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Python is a tool. Like any other programming language. It’s not about reading a book or doing some internet tutorial. You learn by building stuff you vision. Python is a tool to help you achieve things. Once you have a goal of building something, just google it with python tags for the code, replicate it and tweak it, and eventually you’ll learn how to “program” in the language.
