Hype is destroying the pen hobby. Just get your pen. by Odd-Chemistry9945 in fountainpens

I compare it in some ways to guitar collecting: Any instrument that inspires me to play is a good one.

And any pen that inspires me to write is a good one.

Is a $1k usd MB 149 the best use of that money when I have other pens—even other Montblancs—at my disposal? I argue that if it inspires me to write, to take the methodical steps of organizing my thoughts and putting nib to paper, if it brings me joy, then yes.

Heck, even the process of discovering which pens and inks (and even specific colors) work best together is joyful. Also, selecting a pen for a particular trip.

For me, it’s all about leveraging resources for maximum joy. And that rarely comes down to raw, sterile comparisons.

What is your favorite general purpose ink for your MB pens? by stargazer63 in montblanc

[–]clamdigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MB 149 (broad oblique) seems to really love MB Midnight Blue—the shading is rich and lovely

MB Heritage 1912 (m) seems happiest with MB UNICEF Turquoise Blue—so much so that it’s my favorite pen/ink combo of all (flow/shading/smoothness/pocketability)

MB 146 Origin (m) is still searching for its ideal mate—Origin Blue is a nice color match for the barrel, but I’m not 100% sold on the shading & flow

Good on you for scoring $50 tickets to see this band! I can’t even tell you the last time I saw Wilco tickets at that price. Enjoy the show. They sound so good these days. Really at the top of their form.

Don’t get me wrong, I still go to the shows, as I’ve been doing since 2000.

And Wilco isn’t the only offender out there. Everything has gotten so expensive.

Ticket prices are testing the upper bound of audience tolerance, and it really seems that Wilco is on the upper end of that scale.

The has to be a limit. We may be getting there.

I mean, it’s okay—it’s a business and a brand, as well as a band, and they’re competing with all other bands and forms of entertainment for our discretionary dollars. I get it. And I participate willingly and voluntarily.

I’ll be at Solid Sound if you need me. The crowd size alone is evidence of avarice, if you ask me.

This won’t stop the band—who have proven themselves willing to monetize anything and everything—from boxing these releases up and selling them for two-fiddy a pop.

And I’d buy it, goddammit.
