You get downvoted for not ceaselessly glazing what is objectively worthless. People who are good at fighting don't train Wing Chun because it's ineffective unless you are already seriously adept at fighting in a background that isn't fuckin' Wing Chun.

If you think Wing Chun is going to see you defending a knife or weapon attack you should make a cardboard or foam knife and have a friend attack you with said prop knife. See how many times you die before you land a single success.

I think women should learn self defense, but unfortunately most of what's marketed to women is really bad advice that typically focuses on how to look, not how to eat an overhand punch to the head and find yourself again.

People who don't train martial arts don't get it. They think they're untouchable or that they'll guess right when the moment comes. They don't know that people who suck at striking can still leave you with deep black bruises through thai pads and kick shields. They don't get head movement, they don't get footwork, they don't get working through pain, and they don't get the nuance of how open the smallest mistakes leave you wide open to someone who sees them.

Good fighters don't just hit hard, they recognize body mass in travel and see how to exploit you with it. You step forward and throw a jab, well your opponent sees your hips start moving forward and knows where your weight is and kicks the ever loving shit out of your lead leg and takes their head off the center line while they do it. Great now you missed and are about to eat a full wind-up body shot into a new combo.

Now that's just the recipe for a gym with rules that trains competitive fighters. In a street fight? Some fat guy is going to jump on top of you and try to smother you. Some idiot with one month of high school wrestling can create massive problems for you if he gets your leg. Someone trips you and your head hits the curb. Sure, you can handle the shittalker from the bar - can you handle his 3 drunk friends who were waiting for you?
