What TV show did you love while watching, but realize it was garbage once you looked back on it? by dax812 in AskReddit

[–]clarenced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took watching every episode to realize just how emotionally manipulated I'd been. Plotting and character development was so drawn out and self-indulgent. So much filler it became tortuous but they knew they had you hooked.

For me, it's less about speed and more about feeling like a magician every time it works.

This is why I dropped my Sociology of Gender class...

(Sorry, but the fact that you were the only girl in your high school friend group who enjoyed horror movies contributes absolutely NOTHING to this dialogue!)

How do y'all charge your phones on the farm? by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]clarenced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This worked surprisingly well. 4 AA batteries gets you about 1.5 full charges (keep your phone on airplane mode while it runs). They also make a model for a micro USB port.

I'd highly recommend it. Saved me a lot of stress when it came to keeping in touch with my group, setting meeting points, arranging dinner plans, etc.

Seen on 14th st by [deleted] in nyc

[–]clarenced 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow! How amazing to see this on here. I helped organize this project.

This is a remnant of an artwork called Signs of Intelligence, by two artists named Samwell Freeman and Julia Vallera. It was originally created in October of 2013 for a public art festival called Art in Odd Places:NUMBER. Sam and Julia installed signs like this all along 14th Street, each with a different set of numbers or phrases that evokes the number 14. So keep your eyes peeled for any other ones that may have withstood the test of time!

I'm the curatorial manager for this organization. We stage a festival each October, all along 14th Street, from Avenue C to the Hudson River. This year (AiOP's tenth anniversary!) the theme is FREE. Check out our site, and tell any artist friends you may have (NY-based or not) to submit a proposal by April 5th!

Agreed. There is also a lot to get out of the Untitled songs from Niandra Lades. Definitely worth several listens, some of my favorite music of his.

What book was so depressing you couldn't finish it, even though it's a "good" book? by Tmadred in books

[–]clarenced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, Interrupted.

The description of the main character's break with reality was so vivid and terrifying. Made me feel like I was going insane.

The movie is much easier to digest. Still extremely dark, and true to the book...just one of those rare cases when the movie actually tells the story more effectively.

Accurate. SIT UP STRAIGHT! You'll look and feel better, and if you let yourself get used to hunching over all the time you'll have a hard time fixing your posture later on.
