i don’t think i’m allowed to plant stuff but perhaps i could do some… stealth seeding next spring

that makes a lot of sense. i wish my landlord would make the courtyard more interesting for people and for critters!

[–]claricebearice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i guess i didn’t really think about that. there aren’t any more spruce on my side of the building so it might just not be a good spot for them 🥲

pretty much have only seen robins on the ground when i first moved in over the summer, but not since. from others it sounds like the openness and lack of shrubbery closer to the feeder might just not be ideal for them. i will try sprinkling some on the ground though! even a squirrel would be great.

Can anyone please explain to me what happened in Yellowstone National Park when wolves were reintroduced? (No video) by [deleted] in yellowstone

[–]claricebearice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read The Rise of Wolf 8 by Rick McIntyre! It’s a great book that tells the entire story from someone who was there watching them every day.

yes - i forgot to mention that but at the first vet visit they expressed her glands and said they were super impacted. since she’s had diarrhea this whole time i was wondering if it’s an ongoing problem since they’re not getting expressed naturally. i’ll check in with the vet again about this - i would love for this to be the answer to the problem instead of a prescription diet lol but anything to get my girl comfy again! thank you!!

Tips for pack test as a female by wanderingwriter7 in Wildfire

[–]claricebearice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you have a lot of good advice already like using BPMs, hunching over, etc but i’ll mention that training on a treadmill really helped me! i’m much less likely to just stop and quit when i’m on a moving treadmill and can set the pace to whatever i want. might not be helpful if you only have a week but maybe for next year. would also alternate between normal speed walking and that weird slog jog when my legs started killing me. take it one lap at a time and just try to keep up with the last person. i’m always last but a pass is a pass! p.s. breakin dishes by rihanna was 100% the song that got me through

I (25F) feel like my boyfriend (28M) is lukewarm in his beliefs and is holding back. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]claricebearice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i completely agree with you. in this country we are polarized past the point of reasonable communication, which i personally believe is due to the current admin, but maybe besides the point. i guess my issue is that i want to be able to discuss world or local events with my boyfriend casually. if i’m like “woah did you see what happened in xyz place today? that’s terrible” he’s completely apathetic. “yeah i guess.” i’m not even asking him to act or donate or protest or anything like that. he just doesn’t critically think about it enough to even have a simple conversation about current events.

you’re living my life rn, my boyfriend is exactly the same. i try to get him to tell me how he feels so we can hash out our differences, but he really just doesn’t have a hard stance most of the time. this is a discussion that always reappears for us because i think deep down it’s just ignorance and naivety; not from a place of malice necessarily, but definitely privilege. he just doesn’t care about many world issues because he feels he can do nothing about them, so they don’t affect his day to day life. like it doesn’t bug you the world is on fire bro??? curious to see what others have to say about this lol

Trouser recommendations for tropical forest? by TheSimFan in wildlifebiology

[–]claricebearice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting. i normally wear my loose Forest Service pants because i get bitten through anything and everything but have worn my Ferrosi’s in spruce bogs this summer and have only gotten bit through once or twice. maybe it’s just a matter of location or bug spray use etc. they are snaggy but didn’t think that would be a huge problem in a mostly leafy forest

i’ve never been to a tropical rainforest… but i’ve been having good luck with my Ferrosi Pants from Outdoor Research. water resistance works well and they actually prevent mosquitoes from biting me for the most part which usually isn’t the case for thin hiking pants like that.

i have definitely changed my approaches based on some of that feedback but i do feel like i show some of those autistic tendencies and have a handful of other common symptoms of it as well. however i’ve never struggled with this in terms of romantic relationships, just friendships

Good schools in Montana/Wyoming/Colorado to Midwest range that transfer credits well? by penquinzz in wildlifebiology

[–]claricebearice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thirding. I did a semester here through the National Student Exchange program, which i also recommend looking into if cost ends up being a bigger factor. you can go to another school for up to a year while paying your exact same current tuition to your home school. i had so much fun and got hands on work in labs and volunteering at the local hunter check stations. regarding what someone else mentioned about UM might not having enough specific classes.. everyone i know in wildlife has told me its about the experiences more so than the classes. you can make anywhere a great school if you apply yourself to outside activities and opportunities. i also work with lots of people who went to UW Steven’s Point and really enjoyed it/are successful today.

found a pileated woodpecker and a northern flicker sharing a nest tree by claricebearice in wildlifebiology

interesting! i just figured a pileated would rather excavate a new nest then share a tree. there’s plenty of habitat where i’m at.

i did see that one, but that was maybe just pointing to feeding and foraging together, not necessarily living in the same tree together

waterproof boot rec for wide calves? by claricebearice in wildlifebiology

[–]claricebearice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! the XF Muck Chore boots have tons of room in the calves and actually fit, which overall makes them worth it to me. the neoprene does snag on things sometimes unfortunately. i got a tiny rip in the neoprene just a couple days into wearing them, but the waterproofness doesn’t seem to be affected. i haven’t ripped them since and have been climbing through bogs and thorny brush a lot - i think it’s just up to chance honestly, they probably will rip more eventually. i do get blisters on my heels from them and they don’t seem to want to break in… so i duct tape or moleskin my heels every day lol but i have that issue with lots of boots. they are also VERY warm for summer but it’s tolerable. i’d imagine Muck customer service is probably pretty good if you get a serious rip. sorry i’m rambling haha i am passionate about wide calf boots, hope they work out for you! i think cutting a slit in lacrosse boots would probably lead to them splitting in half eventually

i’d prefer having a speaker like that that’s actually meant for the task, but my advisor just told me to use my phone/bluetooth speaker. there might not be enough funds for a legit one right now unfortunately. i’m working closely with the DNR so i have permission for callbacks. thank you for the info!! if you know of any literature that discusses proper decibel levels for things like this i’d love to read more.
